Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM is seeking a Software Support and Development Engineer to be an integral part of a team responsible for Product Development of Power System's PowerVC product. IBM PowerVC is built on OpenStack. It provides simplified virtualization management and cloud deployments for IBM AIX®, IBM i and Linux virtual machines (VMs) running on IBM® Power®. The core responsibility will be analyzing customer defects, root causing/understanding of issues, collaborating with development, test and customers to resolve the code bugs. Ensuring high code quality for customer satisfaction is the key goal. There is the opportunity to directly work with customers, get a deep understanding of their configurations and collaborate with the technical leads to get the concerns/issues addressed. Deliver code fixes to the software releases is the primary work deliverable.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Strong understanding of software development concepts
• Knowledge in these programming languages: python, Ansible, ReactJS
• Basic knowledge of operating systems and how they work (i.e. Operating systems courses); container technologies; Internet Services
• Linux OS familiarity
• Knowledge of hardware servers, software applications and databases
• Familiarity with APIs (i.e., REST APIs)
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• A Self-starter Individual with great problem-solving and code debug skills, able to work independently and as a part of the team.
• Familiarity with database technology and agile methodology
• Familiarity with Cloud computing concepts
• Familiarity with OpenStack concepts
• Understanding of virtualization concepts
• Familiarity working in a client facing support role (such a tutoring, help desk)
• Ability to study on your own, learn quickly, and put new knowledge into practice
