Your role and responsibilities

We're seeking a skilled and innovative Senior Data Engineer/Scientist to join our team onsite in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data infrastructure, as well as leveraging advanced analytics to drive business value. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data modeling, ETL processes, and database management, with a knack for continuous improvement and adaptation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Modeling and Prediction: Implement novel mechanisms for behavior modeling and prediction, enhancing our data-driven decision-making capabilities.
2. Collaborative Data Mart Development: Work closely with cross-functional teams to design, maintain, and optimize data marts, ensuring a stable and efficient reporting infrastructure.
3. Research and Improvement: Lead research projects aimed at refining data processing workflows and machine learning frameworks utilized by the team.
4. Data Engineering and Governance Support: Provide comprehensive engineering services for database design, implementation, maintenance, optimization, and security across diverse environments (development, testing, production).
5. Database Management: Develop, build, and deploy MS SQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases, ensuring accurate implementation following blueprints or specifications.
6. Architectural Support: Deliver rapid data pivoting and support for mission-critical and business systems databases, enabling swift adaptation to evolving requirements.
7. Enterprise Data Model Administration: Utilize data modeling tools to manage, administer, and evolve the Enterprise Data Model (EDM), delivering complete data definition language, physical, and logical model objects.
8. Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical expert across multiple projects, providing guidance, mentorship, and architectural support to team members.
9. Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee the work of junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
10. Deliverables: Produce and maintain high-quality deliverables, including technical documentation, database schemas, and analytical models, in alignment with project timelines and quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer/Scientist, with a strong background in data modeling, ETL, and database administration.
  • Expertise in SQL, PL/SQL, and NoSQL databases, with experience in MS SQL, MySQL, and Oracle.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain data processing pipelines and machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience in administrating Enterprise Data Models (EDMs) and data modeling tools.
  • Track record of driving continuous improvement in data infrastructure and analytical processes.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience in mentoring or supervising junior team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Location: Onsite in Omaha, NE, 5 days per week.

Data Engineering Proficiency: Strong experience in data wrangling, transformation, and pipeline development, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the data engineering lifecycle.

Certifications:
- 8140 Certification: Level 421 - Intermediate certification is required.
- Cloud Computing: Cloud+ certification or equivalent (e.g., CompTIA Cloud+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner).
- Information Security: Either SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner), Security+ certification, or GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC).
- Alternatively, an applicable degree from an ABET-accredited institution or a CAE-designated program may be considered in lieu of specific certifications.

Clearance: Active TS/SCI - Candidates must possess a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance or TS/SCI Eligible.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Data Governance and Quality: Understanding of data governance best practices, data lineage, metadata management, and data quality assurance.
Collaboration and Communication: Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with data scientists, data analysts, and other stakeholders.
