Introduction
As a software developer with IBM Quantum, your job will be to write code for the suite of quantum software tools and cloud services that are part of our full-stack approach to delivering IBM's quantum computing systems to quantum application developers and research scientists. Areas of software development include quantum machine learning, quantum simulations, quantum optimization, quantum software architecture, compilers, noise mitigation techniques, cloud-native development, cloud microservices, and cloud APIs (among other areas).

Your Role and Responsibilities

This is for a 2025 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools.

Build cloud native applications exposing the main capabilities of our quantum systems.
Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and researchers to take concepts from design to implementation, enhancing both user and system interactions.
Work in an Agile, collaborative environment to understand requirements, design, code, and test innovative systems, and support those systems for our valued users.
At the intersection of engineering and design, you will play a critical role in delivering industry-defining software systems and services to users around the world.
Continuously optimize and improve system performance, reliability, and scalability through proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Candidate should be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Currently enrolled in an academic undergraduate program at an accredited university.
  • Proficiency with Git and/or Github.
  • Experience with programming in cloud, systems, or scientific programming languages (e.g TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, Python, C++, Julia, Rust).

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience with (or exposure to) the Qiskit quantum computing framework.
  • Passion for coding demonstrated through personal projects or a Github portfolio.
  • Curiosity for exploring new technologies and contributing to open-source projects.
  • Recognition as a Qiskit Advocate or certification as an IBM quantum Developer is a plus, but not required.
