Your role and responsibilities
A Payroll Professional is responsible for Income Tax Declarations, validating proofs, and processing Flexible Benefit Plan (FBP) claims, including Vehicle Expenses, Leave Travel Allowance (LTA), and Driver Salary for tax exemptions.
• Review Declarations: Ensure accuracy in employee tax declarations (e.g., Form 12BB).

• Data Entry: Input data into the payroll or HR management system.
• Employee Support: Help employees with inquiries and form filling.
• Monitoring: Track and follow up on incomplete declarations.
• Document Knowledge: Stay updated on acceptable documents for tax-saving investments.
• Proof Verification: Validate investment proofs submitted by employees.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure proofs meet tax exemption requirements.
• Payroll Updates: Update the payroll system with verified proof of amounts.
• FBP Policy Understanding: Know company policies on Vehicle Expenses, LTA, etc.
• Claims Verification: Check vehicle ownership and LTA eligibility, ensuring compliance.
• Audit Support: Provide documentation for payroll tax audits.
• Clear Communication: Convey tax and FBP information clearly to employees.
• Assistance: Help employees maximize tax benefits legally.
• Grievance Resolution: Resolve issues related to tax declarations and FBP claims.

Required technical and professional expertise
- Thorough knowledge of the Income Tax Act, relevant sections, rules, and notifications applicable to salary and perquisites.
- Understanding of different tax regimes (current and any new ones).
- Expertise in Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on salary, including rates, applicability, and filing requirements (e.g., Form 24Q).
- Knowledge of various allowances, perquisites, and their taxability.
- Understanding of tax exemptions and deductions available to employees
- Familiarity with state-specific professional tax regulations.
- Solid understanding of the end-to-end payroll cycle.
- Knowledge of different components of salary structure.
- Understanding of payroll accounting principles and reconciliation processes.
- Up-to-date knowledge of changes in income tax laws and payroll regulations.
- Understanding of filing deadlines and procedures for various tax-related forms.
- Ability to interpret and implement regulatory updates effectively.
- Ability to analyze complex payroll and tax-related issues.
- Skill in identifying discrepancies and errors in tax calculations and claim submissions.
- Capacity to research and find solutions to unique or challenging scenarios.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines, especially during peak periods like tax declaration and proof submission
- Strong organizational skills to maintain records and documentation.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Hands-on experience with relevant payroll processing software and systems (e.g., SAP Payroll, SF).
- Ability to navigate the system, extract data, generate reports, and perform necessary configurations related to tax and FBP.
- Employee Self-Service (ESS) Portal Management:
- Familiarity with ESS portals used for tax declarations, proof submissions, and FBP claims.
- Ability to guide employees on using the portal and troubleshoot basic issues.
