Introduction
LinuxONE is a flagship product from IBM. They are large, powerful computers typically used for complex calculations and data processing tasks. This computer has the size of a refrigerator. Companies and governments use them for mission-critical applications, bringing next-level data privacy, security, and resiliency to organisations that cannot afford a single mistake.
We are looking for an intern who can help us create impressive technical demos to showcase to other students and customers at public events. You are applying your skills and creativity to craft architectures that address real business problems. You will work on our LinuxONE machine based in Singapore. This machine includes Red Hat OpenShift and has many cryptography and security features you will explore.

In consultation with our team, you will start building solutions where we will use different technologies emphasising cyber resilience and confidential computing. This can be related to Al, databases, transaction processing systems, etc. We expect you to be bold, learn something new, and apply it immediately.
Together we will develop use cases that demonstrate the use of:
- The best Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) in the industry.
- Quantum safe cryptography.
- Pervasive encryption and protected key cryptography.
- Confidential computing with protected memory and stripped Operator control.
Who You Are:
- You enjoy analysing a given problem, developing creative solutions, and building a system to solve the problem.
- You are a self-motivated and fast learner and hyper-curious about how things work.
Your role and responsibilities
- Take self-paced learning modules at the IBM Learning portal.
- Document technical work.
- Work and deploy code on Linux and OpenShift.
- Attend meetings.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
- Hands-on experience with Linux OS, Linux Scripting languages and commands. Conceptual understanding of computer systems, networking and devices. Conceptual knowledge of security, cryptography, and crypto keys.
- Experience with relational and non-SQL databases.
- Experience with programming, e.g., Python.
- Some experience with problem determination, e.g., understanding error codes, analysing logs or job output.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Experience with managing virtualisation infrastructure.
- Experience with container images and build processes.
- Experience with Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift and Ansible.
- Experience with implementing and deploying security (encryption, anonymisation, data integrity, policy control) features in large-scale infrastructures is an advantage.
