Your Role and Responsibilities
Innovation Designers in IBM Client Engineering are thought leaders in human-centered design.

They apply collaborative design, lean user research, and UX best practices to bridge the
gap between human needs and cutting edge technology - transitioning our clients from
where they are now, to where they need to be tomorrow.

As part of collaborative design, an Innovation Designer:
  • Leads clients and colleagues through the innovation process.
  • Designs & delivers effective & collaborative innovation sessions, facilitating workshops and client conversations.
  • Advances the discipline of innovation design by creating new activities and workshop flows.
  • Plans/conducts lean user research and identifies Use Case patterns.

Following a workshop, you may create designs for a Proof of Value Pilot or a custom demo. You may also be engaged in information architecture, research, and/or evaluation.

Throughout the process, the Innovation Designer is advocating for the end user's needs
and positive user experiences by creating collective understanding and generating buy-in
across stakeholders.

For this position, the design work is primarily concepts and processes - uncovering business value, defining a problem, shaping solutions, and proving them out. What you're creating will look less like a visual designer's portfolio and more like a user researcher's portfolio.
