Introduction
As a developer for our Watsonx Code Assistant initiatives, you will spearhead the development and implementation of advanced AI-driven learning and knowledge solutions. Leveraging IBM's Watsonx platform and state-of-the-art pretrained models such as Granite, Mistral, and Llama 3, you will build scalable, secure, and efficient applications on the IBM Cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with Solution Architects, UX/UI Designers, Researchers and other stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions that drive innovation within IBM.
Your role and responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of agentic generative AI-based code assistant solutions, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Design and implement experiments comparing AI solution quality across multiple solution configurations (e.g., where solution components may include LLMs, prompting strategies, retrieval augmented generation, etc.) using appropriate benchmarks and metrics.
- Work closely with the Solution Architect to translate architectural designs into functional software components.
- Implement and fine-tune pretrained models such as Granite, Mistral, and Llama 3 within the watsonx framework.
- Develop and deploy AI solutions on IBM Cloud, utilizing cloud-native services for compute, storage, networking, and AI-specific offerings.
- Collaborate with researchers, UX/UI designers, product managers, and other stakeholders to integrate AI components seamlessly into the overall solution.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and technical decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to ensure project alignment and continuous delivery.
- Ensure high standards of code quality through regular code reviews, automated testing, and adherence to coding standards.
- Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and system testing to ensure robust and reliable solutions.
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements in generative AI, IBM Cloud services, and relevant technologies to continuously enhance the solutions.
- Identify and implement improvements in development processes, tools, and methodologies to increase team efficiency and product quality.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including code documentation, API specifications, and deployment guides.
- Implement security best practices in the development lifecycle, ensuring that solutions comply with IBM's security policies and industry standards.

Required education
Master's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years in software development, with at least 2 years in developing and deploying AI/ML solutions, particularly generative AI models.
- Hands-on experience with IBM's watsonx platform and IBM Cloud infrastructure.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in languages such as Python and Java (required), or JavaScript (preferred) relevant to AI development.
- Strong experience with AI/ML frameworks and APIs like PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, OpenAI API and their use in developing generative AI applications.
- Experience in deploying and fine-tuning models like Granite, Mistral, and Llama 3.
- Experience with LLM prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation
- Experience building AI agent solutions
- Proficiency with IBM Cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, and AI-specific offerings.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
- Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases relevant to AI applications.
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices, data encryption, and compliance standards.
