Introduction
The Tape Head development team in San Jose, California, is responsible to design new Magnetic Heads to support new Tape Storage products. These Tape heads are then installed in a Tape Drive for Writing/Reading data onto magnetic tapes. The team collaborates with other System development teams and stakeholders. As a Tape Drive Verification Engineer, candidate will be responsible for ensuring that hardware and software products meet their specified requirements and perform as intended in power/thermal sub-system.
Their primary responsibility involves designing and executing test cases, analyzing results, and reporting defects. They collaborate closely with Senior Engineers to understand system functionality and validate that it aligns with user needs and expectations. Additionally, they may be involved in developing test automation frameworks and tools to improve efficiency and coverage in the testing process.

Your role and responsibilities
As a Tape Drive Verification Engineer, the responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Developing test plans and strategies to cover all aspects of design, identifying failure points, and determining the best verification methods.
- Understand server hardware/firmware functionalities and schematics.
- Creating test cases to exercise design under various conditions.
- Running test cases, analyzing results, and identifying design errors.
- Employing various verification tools and techniques to improve efficiency and coverage.
- Working closely with Sr. Engineers to understand design intent, reproduce issues, and implement fixes.
- Designing and developing test automation scripts using Python and the Robot Framework.
- Maintaining and updating existing test automation frameworks to improve functionality.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage.

Required technical and professional expertise
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronics engineering.
- Minimum 5 Years of experience with Firmware Development & Testing.
- Experience with Python, Matlab, C/ C++ Programming and Linux operating system.
- Experience with designing, developing and testing embedded devices.
- Mechanical dexterity with hand tools required to install Magnetic Heads & setup testers.
- Proficiency in test automation using Python and the Robot Framework.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- Familiarity with tape drive design, firmware and architecture.
- Experience with Git/GitHub or similar version control software.
- Experience in generating test cases for embedded devices.
- Master of Science or PHD in Electrical & Electronics engineering.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
