Your role and responsibilities

  • This position resides in Toronto and is a 4 - month work term commencing in May 2025. It is mandatory that all applicants are enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work-term
  • User-Centered Design: Apply design thinking principles to craft visually compelling and intuitive interfaces that solve user problems.
  • Design & Prototyping: Develop wireframes, high-fidelity UI designs, and interactive prototypes that bring concepts to life.
  • Visual Craftsmanship: Create polished UI components, layouts, and assets that align with IBM's design standards while maintaining scalability and consistency.
  • Information Hierarchy & Layout: Structure content effectively to enhance usability, ensuring clear navigation and a seamless user experience.
  • Accessibility & Usability: Incorporate inclusive design principles (e.g., WCAG standards) to make digital experiences functional for all users.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with experienced designers, developers, and stakeholders to refine designs, incorporate feedback, and iterate quickly.
  • User Research & Insights: Support research efforts by gathering and analyzing user feedback, applying insights to improve design solutions.
  • Presentation & Storytelling: Develop engaging presentations, design narratives, and interactive showcases to communicate design decisions effectively.
  • Design Systems & Consistency: Assist in maintaining and evolving design systems, ensuring cohesive experiences across IBM's digital ecosystem.

Required education

High School Diploma/GED

Preferred education

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Figma (for UI/UX Design)
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) for asset creation
  • Keynote + PowerPoint for crafting compelling presentations
  • Strong grasp of typography, colour theory, and layout principles to create visually appealing designs
  • Understanding of design patterns and UI frameworks to maintain consistency across products
  • Basic knowledge of front-end development (HTML, CSS) is a plus but not required
  • Awareness of design thinking methodologies and user-centered design approaches

This role will involve working with technology that is covered by Export Regulations sanctions.
