Introduction
As a Design Manager working on IBM Storage offerings, you'll work with our interdisciplinary design teams, product management, and engineering stakeholders to create user experiences that delight our users.
The world of data storage is incredibly complex and layered, rich with opportunities for design patents, unique interfaces, and data visualizations. You'll play a key role in building experiences that help our customers get the most out of their data, including data storage, resiliency, and AI enablement.
Your role and responsibilities
- You'll manage a team of diverse, highly motivated, and skilled designers across multiple geographies in India. Foster employee engagement, talent development, and acceleration by coaching talented and engaged designers to grow their skills and provide pathways for designers to grow their careers.

- You'll be responsible for managing the design program for multiple storage offerings, ensuring that the design team delivers great experiences on time with excellent quality.
- You'll bring together a team of designers and key product stakeholders to understand and support product business goals, advocate user-centered design, and lead with industry best practices.
- You'll lead teams in design thinking, agile methodologies, and product leadership.
- You'll foster a culture of one design team for all our storage offerings and build a high-performing design team where employees have their psychological safety with their manager and stakeholders.
- You'll participate in design critiques and give and receive creative direction to ensure the highest quality, market-leading design outcomes. Measure and improve design performance and outcomes across a portfolio of products.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise
- 8+ years of experience in user experience design.
- 2+ years of experience in people management and demonstrated expertise in mentorship, recruiting, hiring, and leading a team.
- Bachelor's Degree in Design (user experience or HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
- A portfolio of work samples that demonstrates experience in human-centered design with a proven track record.
- Experience in leading agile practices, design thinking, and influencing projects through human-centered design principles.
- Experience in program managing design projects. Proven ability to ensure work delivers on strategic and business goals.
- Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills. An avid storyteller.
- Ability to work from the office 3 days per week.
- Proven experience in designing for cloud platforms and/or enterprise software.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- 10+ years of experience in design practice and leadership.
- Master's Degree in Design (user experience or HCI) or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience designing for complex, large-scale systems.
- Design community involvement and a passion for growing the community at IBM and outside.
