Your Role and Responsibilities
The S&EM Data Scientist will ensure that a variety of Environmental & Energy related tasks are completed accurately and on time to IBM standards specifications. This position will oversee these tasks, including but not limited to Identifying problems that require data analysis, Analyzing data, Creating algorithms and models, Using machine learning to refine data, Communicating findings to stakeholders, support and attainment of IBM's long-term and short-term corporate Environmental Sustainability goals. This position serves as the primary interface between IBM Cloud, the Product Management and Architecture teams, and co-location centers' landlords.

These responsibilities require multi-tasking and effective organization skills. Strong project management, analytical, time management, communications, and leadership skills are necessary. Must be comfortable working face to face with many groups as well as remote teams in the virtual environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as lead data strategist to identify and integrate new datasets that can be leveraged through our operational capabilities, and work closely with the IBM Cloud Carbon Calculator team in the development of data products
- Execute analytical experiments to help solve problems in Global DC Operations, in particular as it relates to Environmental Sustainability
- Identify relevant data sources and sets to mine for internal business needs, and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables
- Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine Data Center Infrastructure Management stores (in particular Energy use); perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy
- Analyze data for trends and patterns, and interpret data with clear objectives in mind
- Implement analytical models in production by collaborating with software developers and machine-learning engineers
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Five or more years of experience in data science
- Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
- Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
- Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, SQL, and programming languages (ex: Java/Python, SAS)
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in statistics, applied mathematics, or related discipline
- Two or more years of project management experience
- Professional certification
- English: Fluent
