Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Platform Engineer within IBM Client Engineering, you'll play a key role in delivering unique client co-creation experiences to accelerate their transformation. You'll be involved in all aspects of integrated solutions, from identifying requirements to making technical decisions that impact the business case. Your role as a Platform Engineer will be to work with cross-functional teams to realize the full potential of our hybrid cloud and AI solutions to prove business value to our clients.

  • Leverage contemporary hybrid cloud skills (e.g., AI, analytics, DevOps, DevSecOps, IaC, automation, security, networking, and storage) with deep industry expertise and an understanding of your clients' businesses.
  • Define and communicate the unique value of IBM's technology, both technically and commercially.
  • Participate in client sessions that include a range of public and hybrid cloud technologies, such as Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud Paks, and Kubernetes.
  • Support the solutions architecture plan and be a hands-on "builder" during client-facing engagements.
  • Advice on solution architecture to align with platform best practices, with a focus on our clients target environment to ease transition to deployment.
  • Work with deployment teams to transition platform assets and information to provide seamless transitions for our clients

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Minimum ten years of z/OS application development experience with compiling, deploying, and running COBOL for batch, CICS, IMS, and JCL.
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of IBM z/OS components that include RACF, z/OS DB2, VSAM, IMS DB, IMS TM, MQ, z/OSMF, Linux on Z
  • Knowledge of modern z/OS application analysis, development and debugging tools, such as Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI), IBM Developer for Z/OS (IDz), VSCode (Z Open Editor), z/OS Debugger
  • Practical knowledge and direct experience working with z/OS application development, testing, and deployment.
  • Proven track record in participating and leading customer-facing technical discussions while handling objections
  • Understanding and practical application of Agile best practices.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Five years of experience with PL1 and Assembler application development and COBOL applications interacting with Assembler
  • Experience in packing, deploying, and running on Java on z/OS, interoperability of COBOL and Java applications in z/OS and SMPE Installation
  • Experience with z/OS development and test tools such as z Development and Test (zD&T)
  • Experience using SaaS services in IBM Cloud
  • Experience in developing collaborative client relationships at all levels within organizations.
  • Experience working in dynamic team environments and cross-functionally with teams such as Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Success.
