Summary:
The Strategic Projects Senior Manager will lead high-impact initiatives that drive organizational change across policy, process, technology, and workforce evolution. Serving as a trusted advisor to leadership, they deliver strategic alignment, coordinate cross-functional efforts, and deliver measurable outcomes that support HHMI's strategic priorities.
The person in this role will have a solid track record in managing large-scale, cross-functional projects from concept to completion while fostering collaboration and driving execution.
This position reports to HHMI's Headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland, three days a week. They will report to the Senior Director, Strategic Project and Change Management.

What you'll do:
- Partner with leadership to define goals, success metrics, and align programs with organizational priorities.
- Provide strategic oversight to ensure programs integrate with broader institutional objectives.
- Handle multiple complex programs while maintaining cost, scope, schedule, and quality standards.
- Create and maintain roadmaps, identifying milestones, risks, and interdependencies.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and ensure smooth execution.
- Act as a key liaison for partners, fostering trust and influencing decisions with data-driven insights.
- Ensure transparency through dashboards, regular updates, and executive presentations.
- Be responsible for portfolio tracking to provide leadership with clear visibility and actionable insights.
- Implement performance metrics to measure success and drive continuous improvement.
- Support change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions and high adoption rates.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience leading complex, high-impact projects and programs. Preferably in management consulting or large-matrixed organizations. Experience working with federal, state, higher education, or research institutions is a plus.
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic and ambiguous environment.
- Creativity in problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid project methodologies.
- Knowledge of portfolio management tools, with expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and business case development.
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements:
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range
$129,623.20 (minimum) - $162,029.00 (midpoint) - $210,637.70 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
