Summary:
As part of the Janelia Procurement team, you will contribute to the purchasing process in a variety of ways. To be successful, you will need to be a good communicator, adaptable, and eager to learn and collaborate with others. You should be proactive in your approach to work and enthusiastic about gaining real-world experience.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) internship that will report to Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia three days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) and work remotely two days per week (Mondays and Fridays).

Please note: If selected for an opportunity, interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship (12 weeks during the summer months - mid-late May to early-mid August).

  • This internship will be compensated at a rate of $18.00-$20.00/hour for undergraduate students and $21.00-$24.00/hour for graduate students.

What You'll Do:

  • Learn about the procurement process from start to finish.
  • Review, place, and follow up on procurement orders.
  • Reconcile items to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Collaborate with other departments at HHMI as well as vendors.

What You Bring:

  • Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program majoring in finance, business, supply chain management, or a related discipline is required. Graduate students will also be considered and are welcome to apply.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Any familiarity with Ariba/P2P would be a plus, but is not required.
  • Eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored.
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, customer service skills, teamwork skills, analytical skills, and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).
