Summary:
As a Banquet Server, you will collaborate with our dedicated food and beverage team to provide exceptional quality service to our colleagues as well as various conference visitors at our Headquarters in Maryland. You will provide front-of-the-house services, follow standards of service to execute events, and support the overall food and beverage operation as needed throughout the workday.
This position is full-time and reports to HHMI headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD five days a week. The person in this role will need to be flexible in scheduling since some events go beyond traditional office hours and occasionally happen on weekends.

What you'll do:
- Set up, execute, and break down banquet events, including tables, chairs, linens, and other necessary items according to banquet event orders.
- Greeting guests and colleagues at meetings, conference conferences, and banquet events as they enter events, maintaining a positive, friendly, and enthusiastic attitude.
- As needed, provide support to front-of-house operational roles such as, but not limited to, cashiering, line service in the dining room, coffee station maintenance, and pantry pick-up.
- Monitor and replenish supplies such as coffee beans, milk, sugar, baked goods, and condiments throughout the morning.
- Ensure all pantry areas are always neat and orderly, and housing only needed products.
- Maintain freshness of products through proper storage and verification of dates.
- As needed provides support to front-of-house operational roles such as but not limited to cashiering, line service in the dining room, coffee station maintenance, and pantry pick up.
- Provide constructive feedback and input on the operation.
- Provide liquor service and adhere to food safety laws in accordance with Maryland laws.
- Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
What you bring:
- High School degree or equivalent experience.
- Five to seven years in a commercial (i.e., embassy, corporate, restaurant) food service setting
- Minimum of one year of experience with banquet and event operations, including setup, service, and breakdown.
- SafeServ and MD food safety certifications are required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.
- Ability to quickly adapt and think on one's feet.
- A polite, positive, and proactive demeanor.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Focuses on continuous improvement of guest satisfaction.
- Communicates in an open manner welcoming feedback.
Physical Requirements:
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. This position will be required to move furniture, and there requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several 50 pounds.

Compensation Range
$21.86 (minimum) - $27.33 (midpoint) - $35.53 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
