Research Scientist in Design Topology Optimization and Numerical Simulations - Krakow, Poland

For our research center in Krakow/Poland, we are looking for a Researcher with expertise in topology optimization and lightweight design. You will join a dynamic, motivated, and creative team with a broad range of experience and competencies. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing, and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

The research area in which you will work is the development of new simulation methods to achieve multi-goal optimization of design considering electrical, mechanical, thermal, and other phenomena. As a market leader accelerating the evolution of the world's energy system, we put substantial effort into research and development to constantly increase the quality and reliability of our products. That includes lightweighting towards better performance, intelligent construction, affordability, and sustainability. You will be able to contribute to this development and create cutting-edge solutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Participate in research & development projects and lead technical initiatives to provide optimized and innovative design concepts for new-generation products in power systems and green energy solutions.
  • Collaborate with local and global teams of researchers and engineers at Hitachi Energy to identify and solve real-world challenges in optimizing mechanical, thermal, and dielectric designs for novel manufacturing technologies (including Additive Manufacturing) and material processing.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest design technologies and optimization algorithms and recognize opportunities for their practical application in industrial conditions.
  • Develop new concepts and innovations into physical prototypes and verify them.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including software and service providers, vendors, and universities.
  • Disseminate your results in technical reports, scientific publications, and patent applications. Actively promote your knowledge within the company and outside.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Manufacturing Technologies.
  • Experience with CAD/CAE modeling, shape & topology optimization, generative designs, lightweighting, and data visualization.
  • Practice with commercial tools and software packages (e.g., Autodesk Fusion 360, nTopology, Ansys Topology Optimization, CREO, Abaqus/Tosca, Altair Inspire, ...).
  • Understanding of FE algorithms and practical skills in conducting multiphysics simulations (mechanical - thermal - dielectric) using popular packages.
  • Strong fundamentals in typical manufacturing technologies (including Additive Manufacturing techniques) and basic knowledge of DfMA methodology.
  • Willingness to take an interdisciplinary approach, working with experts from different domains to design and implement product changes.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

In addition, the following skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Understanding of mathematical algorithms for optimization and design of experiments,
  • Ability to write simple codes and user subroutines in CAD/CAE software packages.
