Hitachi Energy is seeking a Quality Engineer within our North American Power Grid - Transformer (PGTR) organization. The Quality Engineer (QE) will be a key contributor to creating and sustaining a data-driven, closed-loop quality system and the efficient management and continuous improvement of the quality system and key business processes.

The QE will maintain management system procedures, analyze production and quality data to identify trends and drive problem solving efforts, conduct process/product audits to determine acceptability of quality process controls, support external audits, and drive Corrective and Preventative Action plans and activities to closure, including objective evidence of effectiveness. This person will be diligent in applying their engineering skills and experience, driven by data and facts, and comfortable leading teams of operators, technicians, and engineers through projects and problem-solving exercises.
The QE will be a member of the quality team, reporting to the Quality Manager, and will be accountable for delivering tangible results in support of business plan objectives by implementing improvements, supporting new product industrialization, improving capacity utilization, and managing continuous improvement efforts.

Your responsibilities
- Identify non-conformances and opportunities for improvement, applying six-sigma and Quality Engineering methodology to create a data-driven improvement cycle throughout the production environment.
- Effectively implement Quality Engineering tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to drive a prevention-based quality system.
- Develop and manage control plans for manufacturing processes.
- Lead, participate, and support cross-functional project teams to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety.
- Track and prepare reports for internal quality performance metrics.
- Participate in the maintenance of ISO 9001 registration and any other quality system requirements.
- Lead the investigation of customer complaints using the 8D or other Problem Solving Methodology.
- Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities related to product, processes, and quality system. Verify, or participate in the verification of, implemented solutions.
- Ensures that processes comply with regulatory and industry standards.
- Develops plans and procedures to define standard work.
- Additional duties may be assigned, as required.
COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:
- Assignments require thorough understanding of standard engineering concepts / principles, and in-depth knowledge of quality assurance programs & procedures.
- This role also requires the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and internal groups (this may be necessary to negotiate changes and influence decisions).
- It also requires the ability to make decisions on quality matters, subject to general overview.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline.
- 3+ years of professional experience working in engineering, manufacturing, and/or quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with transformer systems and/or related technologies (e.g. electromagnetics / magnetics, induction systems, power electronics, power products, inverters, etc.).
- Recent professional experience working in Quality Engineering functions in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, especially with data analysis, is heavily preferred - proven experience working with failure analysis, FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis), test engineering, and/or product reliability is a plus.
- Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications - especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Six Sigma, Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance (Pp, PpK) Analysis.
- Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.).
- Familiarity with ISO-9001 standards is a plus (expertise in QS-9000 will also be considered).
- Experience working in product development and manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English.
