The Payroll Leader, US oversees the end-to-end payroll process for all Hitachi Energy US employees. This includes coordinating with business stakeholders, HR leadership, and external payroll partners to ensure processes and technology support the business. The role involves managing day-to-day payroll tasks, working with offshore and local HR Front Office resources, and reporting to the HR Operations Manager, US.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely payroll completion and align with vendors on priorities before payroll/year-end cut-off.
- Maintain a joint calendar for payroll activities, providing visibility to stakeholders.
- Conduct audits and review payroll reports, ensuring data integrity and resolving issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local or global payroll regulations and processes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with payroll service providers, ensuring effective communication, collaboration and performance.
- Monitor team and vendor SLAs, including metrics such as payroll accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness to inquiries and tickets. Provide feedback and guidance for improvement as needed.
- Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., tax agencies, benefits providers) on payroll matters.
- Document processes or, as required develop new one, evaluate their effectiveness, and implement improvement. For global process improvement coordinate with the Global Payroll Process Owner/Team.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance and support to employees and payroll team members regarding payroll-related inquiries, deductions, and tax issues, or raise more complex queries to the payroll vendor.
- Provide training and guidance to the payroll team on payroll-related processes and policies.
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to resolve payroll inquiries.
- Manage state and federal wage garnishments.
- Generate regular payroll reports and analytics to support business decision-making.
- Stay updated on labor laws and regulations to ensure payroll compliance.
- Address payroll-related queries from employees, providing exceptional customer service.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, required.
- Minimum of 8+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a leadership or senior role.
- ADP GlobalView payroll processing experience, required.
- Multi-state payroll processing experience, required.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), highly preferred.
- Union experience, highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of payroll taxes, highly preferred.
- Kronos, Workforce Manager, or similar time-tracking system, highly preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in continuous improvement, highly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in the office.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required during peak payroll cycles
