This internship is the preliminary work to a more ambitious project to generate a simplified high frequency model of the transformer, based in finite element analysis (FEM) results to develop a simplified transformer circuit model.
In this project, the capacitance, inductance, and AC resistance matrix of the system would be obtained from FEM commercial software (ANSYS), and those matrices used to model a RLC circuit, equivalent to the transformer. This approach allows to consider different levels of detail in the model and evaluate its impact in the results, that could be checked against experimental records of dielectric tests.

2 weeks of core transformer training.
1 week to select a sample of 3 3D designs, helped by the engineering team.
1 week of comprehension of the components of the 3D designs, helped by the engineering team.
2 weeks of working with Space Claim (ANSYS), to understand the basics of model cleanup and simplification.
The deliverable of this this internship would be a document, detailing:
- The selected designs and its description (transformer type, power, impedance, load conditions, etc.)
- A summary of the applied changes to a model, simplifications, and its reasoning behind (for the impedance calculation standpoint) that was carried out in Space Claim (ANSYS).
Profile for this internship:
- Degree or master student in electrical engineering or physics. It is needed to have studied classical electrodynamics and circuit theory courses. It will be positively valued that the intern is enrolled in an engineering-related PhD
- English B2 required to fluently communicate with the team
- 3D CAD or similar software experience is a plus for this position, as it will be required to continuously work with 3D engineering tools
