Head of Engineering, Testing, Commissioning Manager

Mission statement:

Provide strategic direction, leadership, management and coordination of the engineering function across business units. Drive the performance of the engineering function performance to ensure that all engineering activities meet the required safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements. Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities across the function.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will act as member of the business unit management team providing strategic and operational guidance to support ongoing development of the business, serve as an escalation point for individual and systemic engineering issues within the organization. You will manage the customer relationships at senior level, develop long-term relationship with key customers, work with the customer to shape, deliver solutions - seek feedback and innovate with the customer to drive and deliver improvement, work with business development to target new, present new technology and innovation at conferences, client events.
  • You will oversee contractual work within own business units, conduct regular progress reviews, identify and manage contract risks, create and manage implementation of long-term strategic plans which define business strategy resource requirements, oversee planning and control process in the engineering teams, conduct regular reviews to ensure the execution of tenders/projects according to agreed targets in terms of schedule, quality, cost, customer satisfaction and monitor quality metrics, identify opportunities for improvement and oversee improvement activities.
  • You will create and implement strategies to ensure that business risks are identified and managed, business oversee the proper application of contract, claim management methods in accordance with HAPG policies and contractual agreements and collaborate with the supply chain function to develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers of services and equipment needed for engineering.
  • You will guide the business in building engineering/operational capability through training, mentoring and shadowing programs, support business unit in establishing and deploying required frameworks/processes, conduct and follows-up certification process jointly with business unit, ensure processes are in place to capture and share best practices and operational experiences, support global business unit strategy with defining concepts for business unit-specific Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), compliance and supply chain management, developing processes and tools.
  • You will conduct management reviews to guide operation of continuous improvement activities, ensure (with HR support) that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed, guide, motivate, coach and develop direct and indirect subordinates, within HR polices, contribute to management review of the business unit's financial performance, along with other business unit management team members, formulate financial plans and budget estimate for the unit/business area, oversee adherence to these plans and estimate.

Your background:

  • You hold bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Engineering of EHV Substation System Integration style projects working with OEM multinationals (or similar matrix organization), Rail Experience shall be an added advantage
  • Shall have proven knowledge, skills, and experience to lead all project execution activities in the area of responsibility. Ensure the optimized technical solutions are delivered in accordance with company procedures, contract specifications, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, and schedule commitments.
  • Coordinate and oversee team development and standardized process development to continually improve effectiveness of engineering team members.
  • The successful candidate shall have a proven experience to deliver the Design and detailed engineering of EHV substation system integration projects in both greenfield and brownfield environment.
  • Good in evaluating the engineering risks and opportunities to strategize the mitigation plan during early design phase.
  • Quality deliverables with good document management, proficient with MS Office and other Engineering tools.
  • Offering Engineering support for various portfolio management of multiple projects with differing complexities and nuances simultaneously.
  • Ensures performance management of the team and take proactive actions to improve it by appropriate training and development actions, achievement of milestone as per defined timeline for all engineering deliverables.
  • Leadership skill in maintaining the team of Engineering professionals with remote engineering support.
  • Proficiency in English communication.
