What's the role?

As the Sr. Director of Engineering for Automotive Solutions at HERE, you will oversee the delivery of stable automotive-grade software. Your responsibilities include ensuring the fulfillment of committed feature scopes, addressing evolving requirements during integration, and supporting OEM software evolution. You work in close collaboration with automotive customers, programs, HERE integration teams, domain owners and product managers within the Automotive Solutions team as well as engineering teams of other Business Units. Your role also involves fostering product architecture evolution to support current and future Automotive Solutions.

 

The primary objective of the Sr. Director of Engineering is to lead, drive and guide the Automotive Solutions engineering team to successfully build and deliver innovative products.

On a day-to-day basis, you are tasked with:

  • Building a scalable organization, which can deliver constantly to a challenging and demanding customer base
  • Working collaboratively and effectively with global customers and internal teams on partnership projects
  • Being responsible for the Automotive Solutions technology strategy as well as product roadmap definition and execution in close alignment with internal and external partners
  • Lead continuous improvement of all Automotive Solutions Processes
  • Conducting financial planning and budgeting for your team
  • Providing thought leadership, career development guidance and exceptional mentorship to team members
  • Ensuring the continued engagement of engineering function by fostering robust talent management initiatives within your organization

 

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing multiple engineering teams both internally and with external vendors( 70-100 people approx.).
  • Setting both short and long-term objectives with teams, aligned with business and company objectives. Establishing processes with team leads to monitor and achieve these objectives.
  • Delegating responsibilities, supervising business and technical leaders and managers, and providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum team performance.
  • Guiding the development and architecture of various products within Automotive Solutions, making critical technical decisions in collaboration with the team and participating in feature planning 
  • Providing strategic advice to the Automotive Solutions lead, offering thought leadership for securing the future, planning cost-effective strategies, and executing new ideas based on customer needs, market trends, and industry analysis
  • Analyzing challenges and propose solutions to support the growth of Automotive Solutions Business Unit
  • Developing and maintaining trustworthy relationships with customers, internal stakeholders, and other Business Units
  • Collaborating with Product Management and Design to develop and maintain market-fit solutions with optimal performance

 

 

 

Who are you?

You have combined 15+ years of experience in product creation, development and integration of embedded software, with a focus on navigation/automated driving customer solutions.

You excel in leading engineering teams and providing technical mentorship. You have commercial awareness, and are well-known for incorporating components and tools that result in cost-effective and superior-quality output. Furthermore, you have;

 

  • Extensive experience in software engineering, managing large scale engineering teams for both early stage as well as mature products
  • Expertise in (or even creating) location technology, including map content , location services, streaming data and data processing
  • Understanding of automotive market and modern automotive software architecture including the digital cockpit enablement and ADAS systems
  • Deep understanding of ML and a strong interest and understanding of AI technology and its applications in internal and external use-cases
  • Deep understanding of cloud technology and cloud native continuous software development as well as edge processing and cloud to edge (secure) interfacing
  • Understanding of end-end software quality, testing and knowledgeable ASPICE compliant automotive software development
  • Experience in programming languages (for e.g. C++, TypeScript, Kotlin etc.) and platforms (Android, Linux) 
  • Experience in managing DevOps (e.g. build pipelines, device clouds, Jenkins, GitLab), with prior hands-on experience being an asset. 
  • Practical experience with agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban 
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and establishing business goals and execution plans 
  • Proven experience in customer collaboration to gather feedback, shape strategies, and build strong relationships

Leadership & Communication Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with a sense of urgency, and a pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Excellent communication and relationship building and adept at engaging across all management levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and negotiation capabilities to achieve a preferred business outcomes
