As Senior Principal Systems Engineer - Automotive OEM you are responsible for overseeing the design, development, and integration of navigation maps, high accurate maps and the related components for automotive OEMs.
This role involves a mix of technical expertise, project management, and customer interaction.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
- Lead the development and integration of navigation map systems, high accurate maps and the related components ensuring they meet automotive standards and customer requirements.
- Oversee system architecture design, focusing on the navigation map components, including data formats, algorithms, and interfaces.
- Ensure the systems are scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.

System Design and Development:
- Develop and validate system requirements for navigation maps, high accurate maps and the related components working closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., software, hardware, testing).
- Define and manage system specifications, ensuring alignment with industry standards and customer needs.
- Lead the implementation of advanced mapping technologies, such as real-time traffic updates, 3D mapping, and autonomous driving support.
Project Management:
- Plan, coordinate, and manage the project lifecycle from concept to delivery, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
- Track progress and ensure milestones are met, adjusting plans as necessary to address challenges.
- Report on project status to stakeholders, including senior management and customers.
Customer Interaction:
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for automotive customers regarding navigation map systems, high accurate maps and the related components
- Gather and analyze customer requirements, translating them into technical specifications and system designs.
- Provide technical support and expertise during customer meetings, presentations, and reviews.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., product management, map & software development, testing) to ensure the successful integration of navigation maps, high accurate maps and the related components.
- Coordinate with third-party map providers and other external partners to incorporate their technologies into the system.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Quality Assurance:
- Define and enforce quality standards for navigation map systems, high accurate maps and the related components, ensuring reliability, accuracy, and user satisfaction.
- Identify and mitigate risks throughout the development process.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in automotive navigation and map development.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovation within the system development lifecycle.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
Who are you?
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in system engineering, with a focus on navigation systems or map development in the automotive industry.
- Proven experience in leading technical teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong understanding of automotive navigation systems, map data formats, and related technologies.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in system design and architecture for embedded systems.
- Experience with software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, V-Model) and tools.
- Strong knowledge of navigation-related technologies, such as GPS, GNSS, and map rendering algorithms.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and address complex system issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
- German language skills are a plus
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, INCOSE) are a plus.
