Location: Hybrid (three days per week on-site (M-Th) in our NYC office with one day remote). Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.
 
Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
 
Pay rate: $16.50/hours
Workman Kids is searching for a Publicity & Marketing Intern to provide support for our NY-based team. Reporting to the Associate Publisher/Head of Marketing and Publicity, this is an integral role that works across teams and provides insight into how these key departments bring our books to market! We are looking for someone who is innovative, creative, and detail orientated as well as being passionate about children’s book publishing!
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support lead publicity campaigns managed by Publicity manager as well in such ways as building media lists, media pitching, creating tour schedules, scheduling travel, writing press releases and pitch letters, preparing promotional materials for events, gathering images for media placements, and coordinating mailings (both digital and physical)
  • Independently own and manage publicity campaigns for select books
  • Research and develop new pitching lists through MuckRack, Meltwater and more
  • Assist with orchestrating social media influencer campaigns & third-party partnership outreach
  • Assist with creating and maintaining the department digital filing system, including the creation of new publicity update, marketing shell, and budget templates for future seasons 
  • Generate social content both designed & lifestyle for our vibrant social media promotions
  • Copywriting for assets such as activity sheets, advertisements, branded press materials, and more
  • Administrative tasks include: processing weekly invoices for the department, maintenance of marketing and publicity budget, facilitating mailings, note-taking at meetings
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • College degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Prior publicity or marketing experience through coursework, part-time work, or internships is preferred 
  • A strong interest in reading and promoting children’s books
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to ask questions
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • A strong focus on details and deadlines
  • Excitement for participating in and contributing to a fun, vibrant work environment with a great company culture 
  • Proficient in MS Word, Canva, and Excel
