Senior Managing Editor
The Hachette Book Group is seeking a Senior Managing Editor for its flagship Little, Brown for Young Readers division. LBYR publishes more than 250 titles a year across an award-winning list of picture books, middle-grade, and young adult genres, both fiction and nonfiction, under the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; LB Kids; Little, Brown Ink; Christy Ottaviano Books, Jimmy Patterson, and Requited imprints. This position reports to the VP, Executive Managing Editor.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Works in close partnership with the LBYR publisher and the editorial and art teams on seasonal lists to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts, copy, and sales materials
  • Collaborates with the editorial, art, and production departments to schedule and monitor titles through the entire production process
  • Develops or refines procedures to improve existing workflows and ensure that interdepartmental best practices and standards are in maintained
  • Leads production and other status meetings and participates in various interdepartmental meetings
  • Maintains title data and communicates title data changes companywide
  • Manages a team of 5 production editors at all levels of experience

Requirements:
  • 5+ years managing editorial experience, preferably in a trade house
  • Solid knowledge of the entire children’s trade publishing process for fiction, narrative nonfiction, and illustrated works
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and an ability to work collegially with a variety of stakeholders and with appropriate assertiveness to ensure deadlines are met
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentorship skills
  • Solid organizational skills, with an aptitude for process development and innovation
  • Strong MS Word and Excel skills and knowledge of electronic copyediting and coding and PDF markup
  • Solid copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style

The compensation range for this position is $110,000-$120,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
