SUMMARY:
Union Square Kids is expanding our licensing publishing program. We are seeking an experienced and innovative senior editor with a strong interest, knowledge, and experience working with children’s licensed properties. The ideal candidate will have exceptional creative instincts, an ability to work with high-profile authors and brands, and a solid understanding of the children’s licensed books and products market. The senior editor collaborates with all members of the department in the acquisition and development of licensed books publishing programs and works closely with design, managing editorial, production, sales, publicity and marketing teams at every step in the publishing process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Edit 30+ titles per year.
- Develop branded formats including board books, picture books, tie-ins, 8 x 8s, beginning readers, and color and activity titles for the Union Square Kids’ licensed book program.
- Oversee acquired titles from start to finish, including licensor and talent relations, contract negotiations, manuscript editing, project schedules, and creative direction.
- Collaborate with marketing, publicity and sales teams to best position books in the marketplace.
- Insure successful and timely publication of all responsible titles.
- Represent Union Square & Co. at industry events and conferences.
- Present titles at sales conferences and account-specific presentations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Minimum 5 years of editorial experience in children’s licensed book publishing.
- Proven experience working with top level talent and licensed book properties from concept to bound book.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs.
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills are essential.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
The compensation range for this position is $75,000-$85,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
