The Hachette Book Group is seeking a Managing Editor for its Basic Books Publishing division. Basic Books publishes about 90 nonfiction titles a year across a broad range of categories, including business, economics, politics, science, history, biography, psychology, and current events. Responsibilities: 
•    Work in close partnership with the Basic Books publisher and the editorial and art teams on seasonal lists to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts, copy, and sales materials
•    Collaborate with the editorial, art, and production departments to schedule and monitor titles through the entire production process

•    Manage an initiative to refresh active backlist titles
•    Develop or refine procedures to improve existing workflows and ensure that interdepartmental best practices and standards are maintained
•    Lead and participate in various interdepartmental meetings, such as production meetings and status meetings
•    Maintain title data and communicate changes companywide
•    Reviews ONIX metadata for accuracy and completeness, and works with editorial, sales and ONIX support team to coordinate off-cycle releases
 
Requirements:
•    5+ years managing editorial experience, preferably in a trade house 
•    Solid knowledge of the entire trade publishing process for narrative nonfiction
•    Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, an ability to work collegially with a variety of stakeholders, and an appropriate assertiveness to ensure deadlines are met
•    Demonstrated team leadership and mentorship skills
•    Solid organizational skills, with an aptitude for process development and innovation
•    Strong computer/MS Word and Excel skills, knowledge of electronic copyediting and coding, and proficiency with Adobe markup
•    Solid copyediting and proofreading skills 
•    Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style (17th and 18th eds.) 
 
The compensation for this position is $80,000-$90,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
