Position Summary:
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, this role is one of the front-line leaders to a warehouse team and is responsible for planning and assigning work, engaging and motivating team members and driving continuous improvement opportunities to deliver exceptional customer experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Drives safety, quality, productivity, inventory accuracy and service improvements within the department.
- Manages the efficient and effective movement of all goods and materials into and between plants of Griffith Foods and 3PL warehouses across multiple shifts and/or buildings through encouraging and motivating a large team.
- Holds daily meetings to review KPIs, provide updates, listen to employee feedback and facilitate discussion around Kaizen (improvement) opportunities using GPS Lean management.
- Keeps stock control systems up to date and plans for future capacity requirements. Manages the accuracy of the finished goods and raw materials inventory through solid cycle counting processes and procedures.
- Manages KPIs specific to warehouse operations and utilization.
- Conducts internal warehouse inspections for dock doors, dock plates, dock locks, racking and floor repairs.
- Reviews Forklift, Scissor lift and other material handling equipment inspection sheets.
- Issues Maintenance work orders for warehouse and equipment repairs.
- Report and document incidents and near misses using Origami.
- Provide training to warehouse staff on operational procedures and warehouse management systems to ensure optimal efficiency and strict compliance with Griffith GMP standards.
- Allocates necessary space for stock rotation and ensures proper trace and tracking.
- Participates and helps with the physical inventory four times a year (usually on weekends).
- Produces regular reports and departmental statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Develops and implements tracking procedures and other operational reports to monitor and detect production problems and inaccuracies in inventory.
- Responsible for department's Health & Food Safety, Safety Alerts, Security, GMP, AIB, BRC, Griffith Management System, and HAACP compliance.
- Ensures corrective and preventive actions are carried out regarding non-conformances, process deviations and complaints.
- Owns the Forklift Safety Program and ensures optimization of equipment: Fork Lifts, Skyjacks, reach trucks, low riders, etc.
- Prepares for and participates in client audits.
- Ensures that housekeeping, sanitation (food safety), and standards are maintained.
- Manages day-to-day freight issues. Verifies invoices/trailers/outside warehouses.
- Provides care, maintenance and cleaning of warehouse plastic skids.
- Manages ordering of wooden pallets cost items from CHEP, PECO and suppliers of white wood pallets.
- Supports Heat Treated pallet program through cycle counts and inventory.
- Monitors departmental costs including Labour.
- Tracks vacation, sick leave and daily schedules through Dayforce.
- Performs audits to ensure compliance, deals with violation issues and responsible for updating procedures and implementing and overall accountability for CTPAT.
- Participates in special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- A 4-year degree in Business or related field is preferred. Post-secondary education is required.
- 3 - 5 years of experience supervising a team in a fast-paced food manufacturing or distribution environment is required.
- Must be flexible to work on weekends and the night shift as needed.
- Prior experience in an environment using Lean methodology is desired.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to influence without authority.
