The Chrome for Android team is working on building the best possible browser for Android. Chrome for Android is mostly open source and shares a codebase with Chrome, desktop, and Chrome OS. As Chrome is the default browser for Android, it enjoys a very large user base and is still growing rapidly.
As the Senior Android Performance Developer, you will help scale our codebase for ever-growing feature teams and developer efforts, without negatively impacting users. The main performance areas of focus include RAM usage, scroll performance, startup time, and benchmarks. Much of our work also impacts other Chrome offerings but the primary emphasis is on Chrome for Android.
Chrome is dedicated to building a better, more open web. We're focused on making a better browser (on both desktop and mobile) to help users take advantage of all the web has to offer in a safe and secure way.Chrome is available across all major platforms - iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. We also built Chrome as an open source project so the entire web ecosystem could benefit from the latest innovations in speed, simplicity and security.
Responsibilities
- Lead team members working on performance projects in Chrome and provide technical leadership on high-impact projects. Influence and coach junior developers.
- Coordinate across sites globally and across product areas (e.g., Chrome, Android, Play) on shared initiatives for optimizing the next generation of web experiences across form factors and devices capabilities.
- Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, timelines, and manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Demonstrate a passion for product excellence, code optimization, as well as designing frameworks and APIs that emphasize extensibility for multiple teams.
- Evaluate new requirements from Android/OEMs and be able to propose new designs/optimizations to Chrome to match constraints (e.g. Chrome on Android performance on tablets devices/with a greater proportion of desktop contents).
