Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.

  • 1 year of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in design and analysis for thermal engineering fundamentals with heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with high-density cable and fiber management.
  • Experience with GPU systems and liquid cooling thermal solutions.
  • Experience in rack-level integration, configured shipment and deployment.
  • Experience in structural and thermal analysis using FEA such as ANSYS or FloTHERM.

The team focuses on developing and maintaining data centers to build the next generation of Google platforms. The team also designs and builds the hardware, software, and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Product Design Engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the computing infrastructure from concept through to manufacturing.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-speed I/O and interconnect cables and connectors, concept and design the next-generation families of cables to meet the expanding needs for both internal and external PCIe solutions, and support the growing portfolio of high power connector and solutions.
  • Design Ethernet electrical cables to meet and exceed industry specifications, and drive multi-source development of cable solutions that meet Google's interoperability requirements.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and FEA on mating designs.
  • Develop thorough cable specifications that address electrical and mechanical performance, quality, ergonomics, and serviceability, working with a broad cross-functional team.
  • Drive suppliers to provide functioning prototypes for early evaluation, identify and resolve design weaknesses inherent to supplier product offerings to meet and exceed Google's requirements.
