Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in IP routing and Switching, Routing Protocols, and Networking concepts.
  • Experience in system design, algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience partnering with large, fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams (Development and Site Reliability Engineering).
  • Experience defining system or process requirements for systems.
  • Deep understanding of compute, networking, application stacks, and supporting product features, services and technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent and convert complex business or technical concepts internally and externally.
  • Capable of technical deep-dives into distributed systems, platforms, security architecture, with emphasis on routing, switching and network design.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join Core Networking Site Reliability Engineering. You will provide executive level technical leadership for a large organization that is responsible for reliable operation, engineering and evolution of Google's Core network, including our Wide Area, Metro and Data Center routing and switching infrastructure, its SDN control plane, automation infrastructure for mitigation, provisioning, and safety, as well as infrastructure security and reliability. As Principal Engineer you are not just a deep technical expert but an exceptional leader influencing projects and delivering a complex technical roadmap across multiple orgs/teams.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Create, design and lead innovative programs, software, and analytics that drive improvements to the availability, scalability, efficiency, and latency of Google Wide Area, Metro, and Data Center networking products and services.
  • Work in close partnership with product leads across multiple areas, on technologies up and down Google's tall and deep stack to design and help build fast, reliable, and durable production systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams building Google's Production Platform.
  • Work in tandem with Directors and VPs to define and execute technical strategy and arbitrate technical processes and decisions.
