Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in commodity management or supply chain management.
  • Experience with sheet metal, plastic process, and materials.
Preferred qualifications:
  • MBA or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of commodity management experience in mechanicals.
  • Knowledge of problem solving skills (i.e. cost modeling, quotation analysis, roadmap development, supplier selection/performance, planning processes).
  • Ability to operate in a fluid environment.
  • Excellent communication, written, and leadership skills with the ability to assume a leadership role with cross-functional peers.

About the job

As a Global Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of supplier development and ongoing performance management regarding Google's technology and business needs. You will help to develop and execute Google's material acquisition strategy and reduce total cost of ownership for servers, storage, and networking hardware, in support of our infrastructure deployment that powers all of Google's services. You will be expected to lead and participate in large projects, as well as understand and resolve complex issues that put company objectives at risk. You will be a key part of a supply chain team that drives continuous improvement and ensures operational excellence in support of Google's growth.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$187,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop sourcing strategies for Mechanicals hardware (e.g., Mechanical Racks, Shelves, Assemblies) and implement supply chain improvements.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance in technology alignment, cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Maintain industry knowledge and keep stakeholders aware of supplier and market conditions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through supplier selection process for new platforms.
  • Conduct high-level negotiations and secure comprehensive agreements with supplier executives.
