Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience of engaging in legislative, regulatory, policy analysis, government relations, or advocacy work, within the EMEA region.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with commercially and technically creative solutions.
  • Experience establishing policy positions and developing advocacy plans against priority issues.
  • Experience within a regulated industry, government, or public policy consulting.
  • Experience identifying upstream and downstream stakeholder groups.
Preferred qualifications:
  • MBA in Legal Studies or a related field.
  • Experience with any of the following: large collocation, site selection for high-technology, industrial-scale projects, real estate evaluation, acquisition, development, construction, utility contracts, energy-related issues, and clean energy initiatives.

    As Google's products and services grow to serve our billions of users, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future. It's a big job that involves everything from operating underwater cables to finding data center space. In this role you combine your deep market knowledge with tech industry savvy to find solutions that support Google's growth. You'll work with specific teams to oversee vendor and partner relationships. Your successful management skills have the potential to impact every part of the business and save Google millions of dollars in operating costs. You'll ensure that we receive contract compliance on our third-party agreements, while identifying the most cost-effective solutions for our needs. You'll take lead on special projects, manage vendors and present your recommendations to Google leadership.

    As an Advocacy Lead, Market Development, you will combine your public affairs and industry knowledge to support Google's infrastructure growth. You will build and execute advocacy strategies, work with peer industries, and develop partnerships with upstream and downstream parties. You will advocate for Google and the data center industry, while leveraging your knowledge, expertise, coalition building, policy and regulatory execution to not only achieve Google's development goals but the economic development goals of the communities we operate in, globally.

    Responsibilities

    • Initiatedata center EMEA market development efforts to unlock new markets, drive down costs, increase speed, enhance stakeholder engagement, and improve industry perception.
    • Partner closely with internal and external technical teams to identify, define, and pursue data center advocacy initiatives necessary to meet Google's ongoing data center needs.
    • Develop data center messaging, in partnership with Content and Research teams, that effectively communicates the economic, social, and environmental benefits of Google's data center investments to external stakeholders at all levels and across disciplines.
    • Identify and monitor relevant legislation, regulations, and other policy proposals in EMEA that impact data center development and operations. Develop analysis and insights on impacts of legislative files and emerging policy trends in EMEA.
    • Activate economic development partnership programs, identifying upstream and downstream stakeholder groups to support advocacy efforts.
