As a technical thought leader and subject matter expert in data engineering, the Technical Principal will play a crucial role in achieving strategic alignment and delivering business value. The Principal will report to the VP Cloud Data Engineering and will be responsible for identifying high-impact data initiatives that drive the business strategy forward. This role requires a hands-on approach to data engineering, with a focus on process improvement and productivity enhancement using appropriate methodologies.

Responsibilities

What makes you an ideal candidate?

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of data solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and guidance to the data engineering team, ensuring best practices and standards are followed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in working with Azure, SQL, Databricks, PySpark, Python, data pipelines, and ETL processes.
  • Implement data frameworks and automation using Python, PySpark or other languages to streamline data processing and analysis.
  • Oversee data warehouse implementations, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability.
  • Manage the migration of on-premises data systems to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.
  • Drive efficiency across data ecosystems by identifying and implementing process improvements and automation.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging data technologies and industry trends, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation within the organization.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and issues.
  • Serve as an independent contributor with subject matter expertise in data engineering, providing specialized knowledge and insights to support the organization's goals.
  • Influence data projects and initiatives through technical expertise.
  • Become a trusted and valued partner of department and business leaders by providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and support in data engineering.
  • Drive technical thought-leadership in data engineering, acting as a change agent and advocate for new methodologies that enable higher levels of business agility and operational excellence.
  • Understand, communicate, and commit to the team's vision, goals, and strategies, translating vision to data solutions while balancing risk, investment needs, and fit for purpose.
  • Foster open communication that welcomes information sharing, seeks input from others, and values diverse viewpoints.
  • Maintain a strong internal network by working across the business segment to foster a culture of trust, inclusion, engagement, and integrity.
  • Help to drive cross-team data solutions, anticipating and addressing problems ahead of the need by acting as a key influencer in assigned oversight areas.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Associate Degree or High School Equivalent plus 2 additional years of related experience required
  • Greater than 10 years in Data Engineering or related function required
  • 3-5 years experience with Databricks, PySpark, Python required
  • 3-5 years leading projects and initiatives through influence required
  • Experience with leading initiatives from start to finish preferred
