In this role, the leader will be responsible for leading the GridOS Platform teams across GridOS Foundation, UI/UX, Data Fabric and additional shared components.

This person must have a high level of modern software development practices, should love the book "accelerate" and should be willing effectively challenge the status quo. The industry is in the middle of a massive transition, that can only be enabled by the success of this critical software to this new architecture. Save the planet with your software, no small order.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, the role holder will:

  • Manage multiple team responsible for platform and software lifecycle across GridOS..
  • Actively present leadership updates to GE sponsors and customers.
  • Work with others to define future technology platforms and architecture for products and services.
  • Quickly learn, internalize and develop a strong understanding of key priorities and the clients.
  • Provide day to day work direction for team members engaged in projects and delivery.
  • Facilitate and coach software engineering teams on requirements estimate and work sizing.
  • Drive a continuous learning culture to help guide improvement priorities.
  • Actively pursue new methods and practices to increase productivity at least 10% consistently YoY.
  • Operate as an engaged leader who serves as a subject matter and technical expert for assigned programs and development initiatives.
  • Work with system leaders and functional teams to ensure products and services adhere to compliance and controllership standards within GE.
  • Represent GE when required in major customer and external business discussions, including portfolio acquisition and sales, new and/or extended business opportunities, business integrations etc.
  • Expert in providing oversight, mentoring team members and leading large development efforts. Experienced in effectively delegating work.
  • Deep understanding of the market and competing product offerings.
  • Defines and owns coding and design standards, ensures secure development practices, establishes expectations around performance, drives internationalization, and manages CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrates expert level skills in collaboration with different stakeholders, influences decisions, ability to take strategic view.

  • Partner with GridOS PM's to ensure the GridOS solutions align with latest dev/release processes
  • Drive a solution mindset: one team delivering solutions for our customers and visible via boards for all the associated teams requirements to succeed in delivering. Not custom projects. Partner with PM's to establish the workhorse products.
  • Ensure scalable standard work processes for interlinking requirements between stream aligned teams, platform teams, complicated sub-system teams and enabling teams. consistently across the entire portfolio.
  • Ensure the teams are enabled to work the GridOS way" as work is transitioned going forward (ADO boards, DoD (inclusive of quality/testing/release requirements, agile suite, etc.)
  • Leverages deep process/domain expertise and partners with PO and technical development team. Influences key stakeholders in design and planning decisions. Drives the development of products that are targeted at a (usually) very technical audience. Combines the customer vision with technical feasibility to convert business needs into functional specifications/user stories. Works with customers/stakeholders to prioritize needs. Creates the strategic roadmap for the product. Coordinates work of several parallel teams to deliver on higher level outcomes. Responsible for transparent delivery and maximizing returns. Focuses on execution for the duration of a product release.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Proven experience drive process and architectural modernization in large globally scaled engineering organizations
  • Proven experience leading large directly reporting organizations, but also influencing peers through the change process
  • Proven experience with modern, agile and cloud development practices, should love to talk about DORA
  • Provide expertise in Design, Architecture, Development, Continuous Integration and Delivery.
  • Provide operational direction consistent with business direction
  • Develop a culture focused on LEAN concepts and standard work and embrace a culture of respect for people
  • Participate in cross-functional business and cultural development
  • Embrace new business initiatives / ideas and encourage team members to incorporate these tools into daily processes
  • Effectively manage multiple broad-scope programs simultaneously
  • Quickly learn, internalize and develop a strong understanding of key priorities and the clients.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Global Engineering or technical team management background is required
  • Experience leading cloud based development and deployment products
  • Proven ability to drive large organizational change
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 15 years of experience in Software Engineering a function.

Desired Characteristics:

  • A passion and interest in working on things that matter, driving the energy transition is perhaps as mission critical as it gets
  • Experience leading engineering teams in a platform and application organizational design
  • Experience building and operating large scale data focused real time platforms
  • Engineering economics expertise, MBA or equivalent preferred
  • Demonstrated strong Software Development and Operations skills
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated experience leading teams
  • Experience resolving conflict & priority issues
  • Awareness of and ability to deliver on compliance requirements
  • Significant experience managing teams running agile development practices
  • Influences through others; builds direct and "behind the scenes" support for ideas. Pre-emptively sees downstream consequences and effectively tailors influencing strategy to support a positive outcome. Uses experts or other third parties to influence.
  • Proficient with build automation, orchestration and dependency management tools
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a global matrix organization

The base pay range for this position is $204,000 - $285,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus and equity package. This posting is expected to close on 10/2/2024.
