Job Description Summary

The Wilmington Field Services Center (WFSC) EHS and Radiation Protection Team Leader will provide technical support and radiation protection technician leadership for the radiation safety function at WFSC, a commercial nuclear field services facility. The leader will also provide EHS leadership for the Field Services organization. The leader will be responsible for promoting team compliance, safety, efficiency, and positive team engagement. Additionally, the leader will recommend changes to the radiation safety program including design criteria, procedures, and training.

  • Provide Radiation Protection and EHS oversight for the Wilmington Field Services Center (WFSC) facility. Responsible for meeting strict compliance and EHS requirements, while supporting WFSC business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with WFSC Nuclear Safety and EHS reporting requirements to corporate and regulatory authorities. Understand and implement multiple regulatory frameworks and assure strict compliance with regulations.
  • Review and implement US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State of North Carolina Radioactive Materials License requirements. Ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Promote and help drive a healthy, mature nuclear safety culture.
  • Utilize in-depth technical knowledge of radiation protection, analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Perform program audits and assessments. Assess the effectiveness of the WFSC radiation safety program, promote continuous program improvement. Focus team on constantly seeking opportunity for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for management on radiation protection or health physics related issues.
  • Review and approve radiological surveys and radiation work permits.
  • Ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources, and support to assure safe and compliant work practices in a nuclear regulated environment. Prepare and conduct training for Radiation Protection Technicians, leaders, and workers in WFSC.
  • Select, develop, and provide ongoing leadership and direction of Radiation Protection Technicians.
  • Communicate business goals, programs, and processes to radiation protection team.
  • Assure team planning - provide direction to support needs of work area, including work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training.
  • Support, encourage and facilitate Human Performance and Lean principles.
  • Support emergency response planning and events. Maintain qualifications in the Wilmington Site's Emergency Response Organization as Nuclear Safety Advisor - Radiological.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering with 4 years experience in radiation safety programs.

OR

  • Associates degree/high school diploma with 10 years experience in radiation safety programs.

AND

  • At least 5 years of experience in a nuclear facility (nuclear reactor, nuclear fuel manufacturer, radioactive waste, or radioactive cleanup site).

AND

  • At least 2 years of recent supervisory experience of Radiation Protection technicians.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.
  • Must be able to relocate (Relocation Assistance provided) to Wilmington, NC area to support ERO requirements.
  • Must follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; wear protective clothing to enter the controlled area.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders.
  • Ability and willingness to wear tight-fitting negative pressure respirator (half-face or full-face mask) and maintain mask fit.
  • Must complete internal training and qualification training program.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain Emergency Response Organization (ERO) qualifications.
  • Must maintain after hours cell phone availability.

Desired Characteristics:

  • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists certification (active or inactive).
  • American Board of Health Physics (CHP) Certification.
  • Experience in facilities that utilize 10 CFR 20 and/or 10 CFR 835 regulations.
  • Experience in X-Ray Programs or as a Laser Safety Officer.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions for complex, challenging issues.
  • Ability to explain complex issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Positive track record of experience resolving technical issues.
  • Experience is SQL and data acquisition in Microsoft Access.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to develop team relationships.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence regulators, other leaders, and engineers.
  • Current NRC or DoE Q clearance.
  • Six Sigma certification or Lean experience.

The base pay range for this position is $99 - 140k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 11/13/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
