This is an exciting opportunity for a Sensor Technology Engineer in GE Vernova Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D) business, a class leading vendor of sensing devices and systems to electrical utilities and Industrial customers. The product line has a broad portfolio of advanced technology, which aid customers to understand and optimise the operating condition of key assets such as HV/MV power transformers and circuit breakers.

The Sensor Technology Engineer will work as part of the Engineering R&D team based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, focused principally on continuous improvement projects on Transformer Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) monitors. This role will work in close collaboration with the GSC (Global Supply chain) factory team to investigate and implement yield improvement actions whilst ensuring sensor measurement capability is not compromised. This will involve developing deep understanding on the design, operation and testing of GE Vernova DGA monitors and the application of appropriate scientific/engineering knowledge to develop new techniques, features, and test methodologies.

The role will involve working in multi-disciplinary teams both in an office and a lab environment. The work will include presenting outcomes and recommendations back to relevant stakeholders in the business, and work in cross-functional teams to implement changes into products and factory test processes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Deliver improvements in factory quality and RTY (rolled-throughput-yield) via improved product design and test criteria.
  • Work on collaborative projects with Global Supply Chain (GSC) team and members of the engineering team to improve product test processes and designs.
  • Plan and lead continuous improvement projects in gas sensor products, documenting and presenting results to management and key stakeholders.
  • Design and conduct lab based DGA device tests, with data acquisition and analysis using appropriate hardware and software.
  • Develop data-driven critical to quality (CTQ) parameter analysis in DGA devices and use this to inform and develop enhanced factory test processes.
  • Work within the wider R&D team contributing test support and scientific analysis where required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant Degree.
  • Demonstrable experience in relevant industrial setting, working on dissolved gas analysis equipment.
  • Experience working with gas detection technology in industrial product development, including appropriate experience and knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and presentations using relevant software packages.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Demonstrate previous successes working in a team-based environment to meet objectives.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with photo-acoustic spectroscopy with a particular application in dissolved gas analysis.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition and experimental automation and modelling using relevant software tools (such as MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Broad awareness of DGA industry application area, and relevant sensing technologies.
  • Experience/interest in data analytics methods such as advanced statistical analysis and/or machine learning.
  • Experience and understanding of automated self-diagnostics within scientific engineering devices.
