Job Description Summary

The person will be reporting directly to line manager, project manager, while reporting technically to the Operational Technology (OT) Engineering Cybersecurity Leader as well. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working on the development of renewables projects worldwide.
The Senior SCADA and Cybersecurity engineer is responsible to perform and lead all technical aspects of Substation Automation System, interface with remote SCADA and cybersecurity. They should have a great attention to detail of all project requirements and lead other designers to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget with a safety mindset.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to provide high level design specification for complex Substation Automation, and SCADA Systems, which may include multiple sites, typically wind farm onshore and offshore components.
  • The Lead SCADA Engineer must be creative and able to lead their project design team to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget.
  • Ability to design and lead the development of cybersecurity solutions on projects. This should cover both OT (Operational Technology) and IT (Information Technology) aspects.
  • Ability to review and coordinate detailed design from vendors and manufacturers to ensure delivery of optimized design compliant with the specifications and incorporating safety in design practices.
  • Coordinate SCADA design with other disciplines (protection and control, primary design, site managers, commissioning engineers and field personnel).
  • Participate to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
  • Prepare engineering estimates for SCADA and Cybersecurity equipment quantities and costs for proposals.
  • During project execution, communicate with Project Engineering Manager to resolve engineering and design aspects that impact material cost, schedule, engineering budget, safety and quality
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with IEC 61850 based Digital Substations (PRP, HSR, RSTP) and cybersecurity equipment (VPN, Firewall, Router, NIDS, etc.) from various vendors
  • Main responsible personal and first point of contact for project(s) cybersecurity delivery, providing regular updates and progress reports to clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead the execution of cybersecurity projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with internal cybersecurity teams and external vendors to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the customer and report any potential opportunity for variations or risks to the project to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager
  • Ensure design compliance and lead Cybersecurity risk assessment workshop.
  • Be willing to share knowledge with or coach less experience engineers.
  • Be an active participant and contributor to improvements in design procedures, standards development, quality, productivity.
  • Embrace a culture of humility, transparency and deliver with focus.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in an engineering discipline ideally with Cybersecurity Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Computer and Electronics engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in project security, preferably in an Operational Technology (OT) environment.
  • Minimum 5 years minimum experience in Utility, Renewable and/or Industrial HV & EHV substations' SCADA and telecom systems design
  • Minimum 5 years minimum experience in cybersecurity designs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies

Desired Characteristics:

  • Solid understanding of industrial control systems (ICS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other OT technologies.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer and willingness to serve as the responsible engineer.
  • Experience of OT-specific protocols and standards such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, and OPC.
  • Experience in designing and implementing security controls for OT systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
  • Familiarity with network segmentation techniques and security architectures for OT systems.
  • Experience in Industrial communication network and system security IEC 62443 standards.
  • Good understanding of NIST Cybersecurity framework.
  • Good understanding of NERC CIP Cybersecurity regulation.
  • Good knowledge of Cybersecurity principles, theories, and technique
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong presence in front of customer and focused on delivering value to customers
  • Experience with substation projects, include renewable energy
