Senior Engineer, Reload Design & Analysis (RDA) (Remote Eligible, U.S.)

The engineer will be a contributing member of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy's Reload Design & Analysis team

Responsible for Nuclear Engineering activities that support:
• GE's existing fleet of BWRs and/or
• GE's BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and/or
• Gen-IV reactor technologies including Natrium and ARC sodium fast reactors (SFRs).

Reload Design & Analysis - Responsible for the performing nuclear fuel bundle and core design, reload licensing, cycle management, core monitoring databank preparation, and associated technical support for Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants operating with GNF fuel.

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range engineering needs.
  • Provide technical consultation on product problems including providing technical guidance, direction, and training to new and experienced bundle & core design engineers and contributing to developing and defining state-of-the-art bundle & core designs, procedures, and processing to improve engineering quality, performance, and market needs.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty in fuel cycle analysis in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
  • Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
  • Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with BWR technology.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets.
  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry.
  • Lean and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Programming experience with Fortran, Python, and C#.
  • Experience with BWR core simulator and use of 3-Dimensional neutron kinetics codes.
  • Experience performing technical evaluations and providing technical support in the areas of nuclear fuel bundle and core design, reload licensing, cycle management, and core monitoring databanks.
  • Knowledge of USNRC licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of US utility outage planning processes.

The base pay range for this position is $128,000 to $202,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 3/11/2025.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
