Job Description Summary

The Senior Materials Engineer will work within the Plant Services Engineering (PSE) Materials team to support all business units within GEH/GNF across The Senior Materials Engineer will work within the Plant Services Engineering (PSE) Materials team to support all business units within GE Hitachi Nuclear (GEH) and Global Nuclear Fuels (GNF) across Nuclear Engineering. The role involves technical support developing new material technology, new plant design efforts, materials selection, manufacturing, characterizing material behavior, and performing design analyses for both plant and fuel applications. This role requires a high degree of work management rigor, technical problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration with other teams within both GEH and GNF businesses and functions.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Senior Engineer - Materials you will:

  • Provide technical leadership for BWR plant and fuel related materials deliverables within both GEH and GNF businesses.
  • Work with other engineering leaders to advance risk-informed designs, as needed
  • Perform technical evaluations, analyses and verifications in the areas of BWR nuclear plant and fuel material applications.
  • Perform work in compliance with NRC regulated policies and procedures
  • Interface with internal and external customers on technical issues
  • Support Company initiatives
  • Meet customer commitments and drive continuous improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (Material Science, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical or similar).
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a materials engineering role
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a nuclear related industry

Eligibility Requirements

  • The preferred work locations is the Wilmington, NC Headquarters but highly qualified remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Operating at a senior level within the organization
  • Experience in specific technology areas: Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plant and fuel material processing, testing, and in-service performance behavior.
  • Experience with BWR and PWR materials technology and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements
  • Project management training & experience with enterprise scheduling tools such as Primavera
  • Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others
  • Team player with strong leadership capabilities
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets
  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Clearly and confidently communicates based on deep understanding
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
  • Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent quality training

The base pay range for this position is $111,000 to $145,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Friday March 7th

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
