Job Description Summary

The Resident Engineer is responsible for responding to customer requests for technical issue resolution relating to steam turbines using technical product knowledge and analytical skills while adhering to sound engineering principles, standards, practices, procedures. Overall as a resident engineer has the technical responsibility to support the customer in identifying plant risks and problems, recommending suitable solutions to improve plant performance and availability.

Job Description

Your Role:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers to make customer technical issues/requirements understood and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Lead and program manage root cause analysis/investigation activities for product technical issues.
  • Drive and lead Engineering request issue resolution with Quality and integrity.
  • Focus on eliminating reparative products issues.
  • Identify business priorities & synergy initiative.
  • Escalate issues as required acting as the liaison between the field and design engineering to drive specific technical resolution and to help engineering identify, drive corrective actions.
  • Plan and provide engineering technical oversight to the Execution Services and Field Services teams during planned outages to meet availability goals.
  • Travel to customer locations to:
  • Support customer technical review meetings and present recommendations to champion GE's committed technical solution
  • Support unplanned/forced outages to meet availability and reliability goals
  • Partner with the Global Services and Design Engineering teams and interface with external and internal suppliers to facilitate the logistical implementation of Fleet Program technical solutions
  • Support identification/engineering of parts for manufacture.
  • Support SQA function in components being manufactured locally
  • Provide support for turbine component and turbine rotor repairs at customer workshop
  • Follow engineering projects from the tendering phase through to final completion of execution (ITR)
  • Provide support to the Resident engineers for operational and fleet management issues that arise

Basic Qualifications:

  • B. Tech. or B Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in Steam Turbine operation, maintenance, projects and installation
  • Experience working directly with customer.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Fluent in English

  • Good team player, research and organizational skills, keen to learn, proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Must be willing to work off hours and weekends to support emergency issue resolution.
  • Good report writing skills.
