Job Description Summary
The Regional Customer Application Engineer (RCAE) is the primary technical interface with New Unit Customers during the pre-ITO (pre-Inquiry-To-Order) phase in MENA (i.e. prior to a firm proposal). She/He is responsible for influencing and positioning GE with Customers and for defining the best technical solution and strategy for firm proposals. Furthermore, the Regional Customer Application Engineering (RCAE) is expected to interface at varying levels with ITO (Inquiry To Order) & OTR (Order-to-Remittance) as required to assure the GE solution remains aligned to Customer expectations. Given the technical/commercial hybrid nature of the role, the RCAE position provides those with a strong background in gas turbine and/or thermal power generation an opportunity to grow in the project development and commercial spaces; likewise, those with a strong commercial and project development background will have an opportunity to increase their depth in gas turbine and combined cycle technology.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Work closely with New Unit Sales to establish a pre-ITO level of technical information flow to develop gas power projects.
- Proactively assess product fit and define an influencing strategy to best position GE prior to firm bid. Products include Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine, Aeroderivative Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Generator, and Heat Recovery Steam Generator.
- Inform Customers about GE technology and solutions through in-person and online presentations.
- Respond to Customer requests for technical information prior to RFP (Request For Proposal, formal), including providing transmission interconnect data and emissions for permitting.
- Gather from Customers and other sources information about each opportunity and the Customer's development plan, strategy, and evaluation method.
- Use thermodynamic modeling software to model Simple Cycle (SC), Combined Cycle (CC), and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants.
- Work cross-functionally to conduct configuration optimization on all opportunities for the assigned Customers.
- Conduct economic life-cycle evaluation analysis of GE and competitor solutions for projects prior to RFP.
- Work closely with New Unit Sales and within the broader Applications Engineering and Product Line Management teams to ensure optimum GE competitiveness.
- Define and communicate to the ITO proposal team the project background, optimum configuration, necessary approvals obtained, and bid strategy.
- Gather competitive data and support post win and post mortem analyses.
- Analyze and report back to the business regional Customer needs and trends.
- Provide Customer feedback to internal functions regarding the preferred configuration designs and strategy.
- Promote, train and support regional teams to strengthen their technical knowledge and ensure the use of common platforms and tools across the entire global network of application engineers
- Proactively promote and position GE early in project phase to create value and influence by working closely with consultants, developers, EPCs, industry OEM partners and customers.
- Prioritize work by focusing on safety, quality, delivery and cost in that order; demonstrate ability to say no to protect higher priorities.
- Integrate region specific customer views on life cycle value into strategic planning (new production introduction and growth playbook)
- Provide technical expertise to sales and commercial operations in selecting, implementing and developing competitive product applications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Proven years of experience in engineering, sales, or commercial operation with a strong technical and commercial background in power generation.
- Proven analytical skill set and strategic mindset.
- Self-driven with ability to work in global team.
- Provides thorough, timely and accurate reviews of others' work with honest, clear and constructive feedback.
- Serves as a technical advisor, mentor and teacher to other team members and functions.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in Arabic and English.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly (up to ~20%) over a wide region for Customer meetings or events.
Desired Qualifications / Characteristics
- Advanced Engineering degree is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in French.
- At least 10 years of technical and commercial experience within power generation industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GE Gas Power products and technology (Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine and/or Aeroderivatives, Steam Turbine, CC, CHP), processes and organizational structure.
- Experience in Thermal performance simulation tools (GTP, Ebsilon etc)
- Prior experience in engineering, construction or operation of large power plants.
