Job Description Summary

GE Vernova - Grid Systems Integration product line is globally recognized for designing, manufacturing, and delivering customized High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) solutions for utilities worldwide. With over 130 years of pioneering experience, GE offers two HVDC technologies, Line Commutated Converters (LCC) and Voltage Source Converters (VSC), to support a broad range of applications and deployable in different schemes including overhead line (point to point), back-to-back, submarine/land cable and offshore.

Every HVDC solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks. Within this cross-centers and multicultural organization, the plant engineer is responsible to design optimized HVDC substation layouts that integrate all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints. He can intervene either during Intent To Order and/or Order To Remittance stages. He will report directly to your local center plant engineering team leader and functionally to the project plant team leader.

Role & Responsibilities :

Project Plant Engineer Team Lead (F/M) shall be responsible for station layouts, and associated activities in accordance with system requirement, employer requirements and with an optimised & efficient solution. Some of the key activities are listed below:

  • Design, preparation, and review of indoor/outdoor equipment layout includes general arrangement, civil interface/civil guides drawing, and installation (erection) drawings for HVDC Station & AC-AIS/GIS stations as per project scope for Offshore Station (extendible to on-shore, based on need)
  • Define and review the electrical/maintenance clearances for indoor/outdoor substation areas.
  • Design, preparation, and review of cable trenches, cable tray/ladder and conduits routing for overall substation.
  • Design optimized substation & buildings layouts integrating all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints
  • Support the Civil/building services leader in preparation of HVA/C ducts routing layout, fire protection/alarms etc. related drawing.
  • Prepare design specification of HV/MV connectors, conductors, Insulator and support project plan lead in producing procurement inquiry packages.
  • BOQ Management, definition of equipments, selection of components, engineering coordination and approvals.
  • Support conversion of project contractual documents into plant engineering requirements
  • Support answers to client, partners & suppliers technical queries related to plant engineering
  • Support projects design and gate reviews
  • Support continuous improvement within plant engineering discipline.

Process and deliverables :

As per the work scope & role, plant engineer shall work according to the processes and the performance deliverables shall be on following lines :

Project management

  • scope of work & time schedule
  • Time delivery mastering
  • Anticipate and give necessary input monitoring detailed execution progress and short-term plan
  • Management of Resources & design time Vs budget

Project strategy & risk management

  • Follows & implements project strategy
  • Highlights scope or design changes (data for claims, VO..)
  • Informs PEM / PM of design issues all along project execution and propose range of solutions for decision; follow solutions agreed up to resolution
  • Updates risk assessment related to engineering & applies mitigation plan when required
  • Pro-actively generate and manage opportunities

Customer relationship

  • Analyse customer technical requirements
  • Ensures compliance to customer requirements
  • Represents customer interests in the design decisions
  • Manage customer comments
  • Interface with customer and represent the subject in technical meetings, upon need.
  • Coordinate with Partners coordination regarding customer technical comments on their scope

Document & configuration management

  • Manages & tracks evolution of input data
  • Track customer comments and answers, along with document resubmission
  • Manage return status of project documentation (approved, comments, resubmit, rejected)
  • Ensures traceability from Customer requirements to equipment specifications
  • Ensures conformance of material with specification & documentation
  • Tracks & manages identified or potential deviations
  • Manages evolution of customer requirements & associated impacts

Design expediting

  • Participates to issuance of technical specifications and basic document to enable procurement of main items and plant detailed design
  • Prepares and or coordinates elaboration of document, calculation, Simulation, to validate technical options proposed to the customer
  • Looks for cost optimization in all design phases and mainly during basic design
  • Ensures technical consistency of design area and associated performance level
  • Obtains or provides support to insure compliance to technical "state of the art" and applicable standards & regulations
  • Checks documents
  • Provides technical assistance to sourcing upon request
  • Prepares subcontracting files (Scope, Deliverables, Inputs, Schedule)
  • Checks design subcontractor deliverables
  • Organizes review meeting with subcontractors
  • Contributes to OMM & As-built issuance

Sourcing & Procurement, Supplier/Partner management

  • Support Sourcing and Procurement in the definition of the Supplier's list according to the project strategy
  • In line with general time schedule, participate to elaboration of supply request : specification & BOQ
  • Organize and follow transmission of required Supply Requests on time; coordinate any required updates
  • Coordinate with relevant people the review of technical offers from suppliers and approve the technical evaluation for relevant activity
  • Manage technical interface with sub suppliers & partners, prepare input data , check consistency
  • Request for technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers if & when appropriate
  • Follow design subcontracting process
  • Ensure the technical follow up (review, comment, approval) of the supplier's documentations
  • Support Procurement in the equipment ITP review and approval
  • Support Procurement in the review of FAT procedure and participate to FAT, as per project FAT plan. and request resources function of project

Interface with Construction

  • Involve Construction teams on Design review to Perform constructability analysis
  • Prepares site work: method statement; site modification
  • Prepares information required for OMM for his/her field of activities
  • Provides support to the site team to resolve technical issues and raise and close snag lists

Return of Experience & Knowledge Capitalisation

  • Provide data & inputs for project RoE
  • Site/Design return of experience & design validation
  • Support functional knowledge capitalization for dedicated practice areas

Quality

  • Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes defined at Unit, project level, and in EMH
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner

Health and Safety

  • Implement design freeze and EHS in design
  • Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team
  • Sets the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observes work conditions and behaviors, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.
  • Actively participates in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
  • Routinely observes routines and behaviors of others and provides immediate feedback regarding unsafe behavior and celebrates achievements or safe behaviors.

Qualifications and Skills :

The candidate need to have following qualification and experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or related discipline with hands-on work-experience of 3-5 years on HVDC Primary / Plant Engineering function.
  • Experience for Off-shore station / platform plant-design.
  • Strong knowledge on High Voltage substation international standards & guidelines (IEC, CIGRE...) and related equipment.
  • Proficient with Autodesk CAD tools Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • Good understanding of onshore civil engineering and offshore platform design and requirements.
  • Basic knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) type.Analytical mind, rigorous and commitment
  • Professional English spoken and written
