Job Description Summary
The Grid System Integration (GSI) team delivers a wide range of high voltage AC and DC transmission projects, including the connection of large Offshore Windfarms, and is looking for a "Low & Medium Voltage AC Auxiliary Power System Engineer" to join the team.
These large and complex projects involve the installation of a significant amount of equipment and require the design of a supporting auxiliary power network that is both efficient and resilient to ensure the overall system has the required availability.
In this role and working with the other members of the design team, you will design and manage HV Systems and Components, including plant and installation engineering. First to define the system requirements, design sub-systems and component definitions needed for it's realisation, and finally managing the design integration.

Job Description
Under the role of Project Engineer - HV Systems, he/she shall be responsible for following technical scope, applicable for HVDC on-shore / off-shore project.
- Lead the design of Plant Engineering systems, station layouts and installation drawings.
- Manage the HV Components, RFQ to Delivery engineering cordination, interfacing with sub-sysyems.
- Manage BOQ consolidated at project level.
- Intgrate system engineering requirements, controls and LV system interfaces, MEP and CW system interfaces.
- Lead the conceptual designs and cordinate partners / oter stake holders for overall system integration and client interface for AC networks.
- Understand the customers' requirements, regulatory constraints and standards that need to be adhered too and ensure that they are fully considered by all stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain room book, inputs interfaces
- Present the engineering options to internal stake holders and customers in order to gain agreement and progress to the next design stage.
- Create the necessary documents and reports to articulate the proposed design and it's benefits to the Customer.
- Create equipment procurement specifications in order to engage the supply chain and obtain vendor offers for the required equipment. Working with the Sourcing team review the offers and determine the best technical solution.
- Develop the proposal into a practical solution and supervise the creation of the design and installation integration drawings and other documents.
- Work with the mechanical, electrical and civil designers to integrate the auxiliary system design in to the overall solution and ensure that the necessary provision is made and interfaces are managed.
- Engage with the Customer, as required, to articulate the proposed design and answer questions or queries that may be raised.
- Working with the installation and commissioning team, develop a testing regime to ensure that the system meets it's functional and legislative obligations.
Key missions of the Project Engineer:
Project management
- scope of work & time schedule
- Establish, based on tender and contract analysis, and project strategy, the list of documents to produce for his/her field of activity
- Evaluates with PEM or PM engineering workload and deliverables dates for concerned package, and commits to such budget in man days and in time delivery
- Time delivery mastering
- Ensures on-time delivery of design, including Partner documents, to stakeholders with suitable quality
- Anticipate and mitigate delivery issues and recommend changes
- Lead & coordinate his/her design team
- Manage and monitor detailed execution progress and short-term plan
- Request from PEM or PM required technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers if & when appropriate, to synchronize respective designs
- Give necessary input for management / monitoring detailed execution progress and short-term plan
- Resources
- On monthly basis, measure design physical progress on relevant studies, and provides PEM with relevant data for evaluation of ETTC
- Manage design time spent in man-hours on relevant activities
Project strategy & risk management
- Follows & implements project strategy
- Highlights scope or design changes (data for claims, VO..)
- Informs PEM / PM of design issues all along project execution and propose range of solutions for decision; follow solutions agreed up to resolution
- Updates risk assessment related to engineering & applies mitigation plan when required
- Pro-actively generate and manage opportunities
Customer relationship
- Analyse customer technical requirements
- Ensures compliance to customer requirements
- Represents customer interests in the design decisions at PM request
- Manage customer comments
- Attend Customer technical meetings, upon PEM or PM request
- Coordinate with Partners coordination regarding customer technical comments on their scope
Document & configuration management
- Manages & tracks evolution of input data
- Track customer comments and answers, along with document resubmission
- Manage return status of project documentation (approved, comments, resubmit, rejected)
- Ensures traceability from Customer requirements to equipment specifications
- Ensures conformance of material with specification & documentation
- Tracks & manages identified or potential deviations
- Manages evolution of customer requirements & associated impacts
Design expediting
- Participates to issuance of technical specifications and basic document to enable procurement of main items and plant detailed design
- Prepares and or coordinates elaboration of document, calculation, Simulation, to validate technical options proposed to the customer
- Looks for cost optimization in all design phases and mainly during basic design
- Ensures technical consistency of design area and associated performance level
- Obtains or provides support to insure compliance to technical "state of the art" and applicable standards & regulations
- Checks documents
- Provides technical assistance to sourcing upon request
- Prepares subcontracting files (Scope, Deliverables, Inputs, Schedule)
- Checks design subcontractor deliverables
- Organizes review meeting with subcontractors
- Contributes to OMM & As-built issuance
Process & Tools
- Deploys Engineering tools (CAD, PDM/DMS,) as per strategy
- Defines with Engineering management the Project Design review plan
- Conducts design reviews following Engineering management instruction
- Propose co-engineering platform with partners when relevant
- Integrate EHS requirements based on project Strategy, and deploy HAZID (Hazard identification) sessions at different project phases
- Apply Design subcontracting process supported by PEM or PM
- Implement KPIs defined on engineering process for full set project
- Issue nonconformance reports (FAT, Site) as required
- Manage nonconformance reports upon issuance
Sourcing & Procurement, Supplier/Partner management
- Support Sourcing and Procurement in the definition of the Supplier's list according to the project strategy
- In line with general time schedule, participate to elaboration of supply request : specification & BOQ
- Organize and follow transmission of required Supply Requests on time; coordinate any required updates
- Coordinate with relevant people the review of technical offers from suppliers and approve the technical evaluation for relevant activity
- Manage technical interface with sub suppliers & partners, prepare input data , check consistency
- Request for technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers if & when appropriate
- Follow design subcontracting process
- Ensure the technical follow up (review, comment, approval) of the supplier's documentations
- Support Procurement in the equipment ITP review and approval
- Support Procurement in the review of FAT procedure and participate to FAT, as per project FAT plan. and request resources function of project
Interface with Construction
- Involve Construction teams on Design review to Perform constructability analysis
- Prepares site work: method statement; site modification
- Prepares information required for OMM for his/her field of activities
- Provides support to the site team to resolve technical issues and raise and close snag lists
Return of Experience & Knowledge Capitalisation
- Provide data & inputs for project RoE
- Site/Design return of experience & design validation
- Support functional knowledge capitalization for dedicated practice areas
Quality
- Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes defined at Unit, project level, and in EMH
- Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner
Health and Safety
- Implement design freeze and EHS in design
- Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team
- Sets the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observes work conditions and behaviors, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.

Desired Profile and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will have the following qualification and experience:
- A first degree in electrical engineering. (Or equivalent experience)
- More than 5 years' experience working in a role where you are the design and delivery of HV systems for an HVDC Project, and have a strong working knowledge of the following topics:
- HV Components - equipments and systems
- Station layouts
- MEP & CW system Interfaces
- Statutory compliances
- Quality processes
- Scheduling of engineering activities, managing inetrfaces
- Representing to client and other stake holders the ingrated overall primary sytems
Desired Characteristics:
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of HV Engineering & system networks, and the equipment available to realise the design. You will also have a working knowledge of related standards and documents, such as IEC-62271, in order to understand the design constraints that need to be adhered too.
You will be confident to discuss these topics with internal stakeholders & customers and be able to propose solutions or improvements needed to create successful designs that can then be delivered.
You will be a team player, with good communication and interpersonal skills, be capable of self-management, and have a high degree of flexibility, resilience and a self-learning attitude.
Experience in technical problem solving
Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry
Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide.
