Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced Power Electronics engineer to join GE Power Conversion's & Storage Drive Systems Engineering team as a Power Electronics Manager.

The Power Electronics Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting low voltage and medium voltage power electronics drive systems design tasks on our System projects. This is a technical leadership role and will involve leading and driving multi-disciplinary teams of engineers to deliver MW-scale power electronics drive systems for Marine, Renewable Energy and Industry applications.

The Power Electronics Manager will report directly to the Drive Systems Engineering Manager.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead, build and develop a team of Power Electronics Engineers.
  • Line Manager - Operationally plan and manage the team - including succession planning, skills planning, resource management.
  • Lead transfer of build to print converter engineering designs to global manufacturing sites. This will require working with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure smooth handover of engineering designs to manufacturing sites within and outside GE.
  • Collaborate with a wider team of Mechanical engineers, Electrical engineers, Control engineers and Advanced manufacturing engineers to ensure successful delivery of power electronics systems.
  • Offer technical support to tendering teams on new business opportunities with preparing engineering budgets and technical proposals.
  • Take ownership of validation testing and certification of Power electronic converter products. This will involve working with a wider multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical control, commissioning and power electronics engineers to ensure full product validation and Ensuring converter hardware designs comply with the relevant health & safety, international standards and class society rules.
  • Drive the application and development of engineering standards and design practices.
  • Drive attainment of on-time delivery, cost and quality targets on projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to tendering, test and commissioning teams as appropriate.
  • Liaison with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in a relevant field.
  • Design experience of power electronics, packaging, manufacturing, and applications.
  • Experience of leading and building a team of engineers.
  • Willing to travel within UK and overseas for short term working.
  • Able to achieve UK security clearance.
