Essential Responsibilities
- Working as part of a Project Team to support the design, build and delivery of the product whilst ensuring focus on key fundamentals: Safety, Quality, On Time Delivery (OTD) and Cost- always with unyielding integrity.
- Perform calculations and develops machine design whilst following Engineering Design Standards and Process Flows: detailed mechanical engineering analysis and design on all components required for large, custom rotating equipment. Calculations include stress analysis, torsional analysis, rotor dynamic analysis, thermal analysis, hydrodynamic bearing analysis, etc. This will require using in-house design software, finite element software and hand calculations.
- Ensure right first time quality, maintaining a zero defect mind set performance, and proactively manage Non Conformance Report (NCR) resolution.
- Plan, allocate and manage daily workload to achieve objective within delivery times.
- Being able to make considered risk judgements on tight time scales whilst ensuring technical robustness of solutions.
- Conduct and support the Design Review strategy within the project team to ensure designs are meeting customer specifications.
- Attends the Contract Kick-Off Meeting (internal and with customer if requested) to recognize / acknowledge the technical subset of the contract.
- Review and approve drawings to ensure they will meet Form, Fit and Function requirements, and validate customer documents before they are sent to the Project Manager or Customer.
- Support Project managers and Engineering Planner during project execution phase to close out deliverables on time and deliver to our metrics.
- If designated, lead the engineering element of the project team (designers & drafters) to deliver drawings, BOMs and specifications to Manufacturing and Sourcing in a timely manner to ensure we meet our OTD and ensure contract execution budget related commitments (eliminating margin erosion).
- Where required, supporting the Sales/Application Engineer team in order to build technical offers, compliant with cost objectives and our design standards. Attend Tender Review Meetings to recognize/validate technical offers.
- Support Sales and Service Functions including potential travel within UK and abroad when required to resolve issues.
- Ensure that the design is in line with customer specifications, international regulations and engineering design standards.
- Disposition Supplier Deviation Requests/Engineering Change Requests on projects that relate to the Mechanical Design.
- Work with and build strong bonds with the manufacturing teams both at design (ready for assembly) reviews and supporting during the machine build. Support Manufacturing in case of technical issues and participate in the Duty Engineer rota as required.
- Participate in the global standardization/rationalization strategy.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis and Lessons Learned reviews.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and best practice activities, both within our internal team and globally.
- Working cross functionally as part of a global GE team to ensure our customers (both external and internal) are satisfied with their experience of dealing with us.

Qualifications/Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) or higher.
- Previous experience in technical engineering environment is desirable.
- Knowledge of rotating machines products, their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes.
- Practical experience with structural analyses on Finite Element Analysis (Ansys) is preferable.
- Experienced in engineering design processes and tools preferred (2D/3D CAD is desired).
- Computer literate in Word processing, Excel and Powerpoint applications.
- Flexible approach, willing to work extended hours if required and travel as and when required.
- Good written and oral skills.
- Experience in the reading and interpretation of engineering drawings and documentation.
