Job Description Summary

A core manufacturing leadership position in a non-union facility that is responsible for the delivery of over 65% of GE Wind's global volume of Machine Heads. In this position, the successful candidate will have to lead a team of both salaried direct reports and assembly technicians in the successful execution of safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to solve technical issues, execute continuous improvement programs, manage P&E budgets and effectively motivate a diverse, high performing team.

Perform the daily operations of plants to ensure reliability and consistency on the production line. Includes Service Shops. Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate a manufacturing cell strategy that cost effectively meets or exceeds business commitments.
  • Support the development of the master production schedule and execute customer commitments on-time while ensuring that safety, quality and cost targets are met.
  • Create an environment of respect and trust among the cell and ensure open lines of communication for the identification and resolution of both technical and personnel issues.
  • Lead a direct report salaried team consisting of 1 Quality Process Engineers, 1 Manufacturing Engineers and 2 Operations Leaders.
  • Interface with engineering, sourcing, materials, quality, logistics and projects teams to ensure the efficient delivery of product to project site.
  • Lead a team of ~200 GE non-union technicians and up to ~200 contractors to assemble, test and deliver Machine Heads and Drivetrains to site across a 3-shift operation.
  • Work with contract labor supplier to ensure appropriate staffing levels while meeting cost and efficiency targets.
  • Use Lean Six Sigma methodologies to continue the optimization of the hubs RePower pulse line on both shifts, addressing modifications and updates where needed.
  • Lead the improvement of the Drivetrain and MH Main line moving line; including strategically developing communication rhythms, setting proper staffing levels, appropriately developing assembly processes, determining standard work, and synchronizing efforts between GE and suppliers to ensure a flawless ramp.
  • Ensure that the team is focused on continuous improvement projects that address safety, quality, delivery and cost goals.
  • Identify, hire, and develop talent for roles within the cell and broader manufacturing teams.
  • Lead New Production activities to include safely shipping no escaping defect units on time at should cost.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED and at least 4 years of manufacturing or operations experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing operations management and/or engineering role

  • Proven leadership roles in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Prior experience as an Ops Leader and either quality process engineer or manufacturing engineer.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to inspire ownership and ongoing support for team objectives.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified (GE employees only)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and ensure that they are me

The salary range for this position is $103,100.00 -$171,800.00 USD Annual.
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this role has variable compensation incentive of 15%.
