We are seeking a dynamic leader to join our world-class test organization and lead the design and execution of critical test programs across Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Generator, and Renewables. The Schenectady Technology Laboratory (STL) Manager will oversee state-of-the-art test activities that drive development of innovative products, solutions, and systems. The STL Manager will play a crucial role in helping the team achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives, all while operating within established policy parameters. The role offers moderate autonomy and demands high levels of operational judgment to achieve the desired outcomes.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Manager of the Schenectady Technology Laboratory (STL) is responsible for managing the laboratory facilities, operations and team (engineering, hourly union employees, and contractors) in a manner that is safe and efficiently meets all testing schedule, budget and technical objectives.

  • Provide technical leadership daily with the full scope of laboratory operations including coordination with Design organizations, Product Line Offices, Program Managers, Manufacturing, and Site Facilities teams as well as other GE Vernova organizations to achieve lab and business objectives most effectively.
  • Provide strategic business planning through the S2 process (year over year budget planning). Overseeing capital expense spending and tracking program budgets.
  • Coordinate across GE Vernova to scope and develop testing opportunities for the STL; building new relationships with Advanced Research Center (ARC), Renewables and Vernova for testing as a service (TaaS) and establishing long-term strategies to expand the lab's capabilities and attract new customers.
  • Develop and align STL processes with New Product Introduction (NPI), Lean and business quality processes to ensure all lab SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost) can be achieved.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies and programs to maintain the test facility. Ensure preventative maintenance activities to reduce equipment downtime and improve availability.
  • Drive EHS best practices, process rigor and operational excellence. Drive Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) best practices and process rigor; maintaining equipment specific LOTO procedures and verifying 100% compliance with OSHA Lockout/Tagout requirements.
  • Remain cognizant of state-of-the-art in facility mechanical systems development, validation test processes and technology
  • Drive continuous facility improvement & flexible utilization. Developing and updating standard operating procedures to ensure test activities are completed consistently and with the highest quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to expand the lab's capabilities, improve existing processes, and create a workplace that is clean, uncluttered, safe, and well organized.
  • Provide performance feedback and support employee development and growth.
  • Maintain strong Union leadership and relations; In this role you will partner with the Operations Leader closely to supervise the Local IUE 301 & Local UA 128 hourly workforce in their daily operations.
  • Participate / Lead a Lab Network Group across CDT globally to improve our safety culture, share best practices, increase safety incident reporting, and drive initiatives like 5S to improve lab efficiency.
  • Developing, coaching, and mentoring engineering staff in project management activities including scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, establishing priorities, and maintaining regulatory test records.
  • Implement daily management tools to help the team focus on what's most critical and show where improvements are needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in design or powerplant engineering

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in design or power plant operations
  • Strong leadership, program management with ability to manage multiple priorities and make strategic business decisions.
  • Prior experience managing Union relations.
  • Knowledge of industry and internal GE test capabilities
  • Strong network with GE Vernova Design community
  • Ability to work well with all organizational levels, both inside and outside GE and to plan and manage complex projects
  • Business and design system experience including PowerMax, PLM, CAD and sourcing / financial systems.

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $131,700 - $219,300 USD Annual.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This Senior Professional Band position is also eligible for a variable incentive bonus of 15%.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
