Machine Shop Quality Control Inspector

Job Description Summary

As the Quality Control Inspector, you will be an active contributor in verifying the quality of parts through visual, in-process, and final inspections. This role will require you to use numerous measuring devices to perform dimensional checks on new and machined parts. Additionally, you will work closely with Engineering and Machinists to reduce the number of defects and COPQ.

Job Description

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform Quality Control product validation inspections on GE Vernova machined components and assemblies.
  • Perform visual inspections as one-over-one process verification utilizing visual inspection techniques and the use of precision measuring equipment
  • Responsible for documenting product defects and generating non-conformance reports in accordance with GE Vernova Control of Non-Conforming Materials procedures.
  • Responsible for completing detailed quality control Inspection (in-process and final inspections) records.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports and records in compliance with Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Assist in development of QMS Procedures and Work Instructions to eliminate quality defects and improve shop process
  • Maintain site gaging 5S and cleanliness standards in machine shop inspection area.
  • Assist in site gage calibration activities.
  • Assist machine operators by ensuring correct gaging / inspection methods are used and setting-up needed gages.
  • Assist Engineers and team with data gathering to support investigations.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED), or higher levels of accredited education.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in Quality Control Inspections including in-process and final product inspections. Experience either machining or inspecting medium to heavy industrial equipment in a job shop environment.
  • Experience using inspection tools such as bore gages, inside micrometers, outside micrometers (up to 42"), Mueller gages, dial calipers, test, and dial indicators. Must also have experience setting up gage blocks.
  • 3+ years experience reading and interpreting Engineering Drawings, Code Specifications, and Purchase Orders to verify products are in compliance with the requirements set forth in these documents.

Desired Position Qualifications:

  • Ability to multitask between jobs keeping focus on providing a quality product and maintaining efficiency to set time standards.
  • Energetic self-starter, capable of working with minimum supervision, and have strong written/oral communication skills.
  • Able to professionally interface with Supervision, Engineers, and team members.
  • Possess a team play mindset with a willingness to work with machinists and actively seek out in-process inspections to ensure methods, processes and product meet the requirements of the drawing and router.
  • Possess a team player mindset with a willingness to accept new challenges including cross training to work in other Inspection disciplines to assist in other Quality Assurance duties.
  • Beneficial to be certified as an ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or possess an equivalent technical degree from an accredited University.
  • Able work OT when necessary to meet operations objectives
