The GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Wilmington Field Services Center (WFSC) Lead Quality Engineer, is responsible for effectively leading, developing, and managing the various WFSC processes ensuring quality program compliance to meet regulatory and customer requirements for supply of components (materials and equipment) and services to the nuclear energy utility market.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Lead Quality Engineer has overall responsibility to develop, maintain, and execute quality processes and programs designed to ensure WFSC services and products meet required standards and customer expectations. In this position, you will maintain the quality activities to achieve compliance, qualify special processes, and execute process improvements and oversee resources in the execution of service and product related activities. Additionally, this position frequently interacts other functional areas and customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform oversight and control of quality processes, inspections, inventory, and related equipment during the refurbishment of components and tooling supporting the GEH Services business.
  • Be responsible for quality activities, including planning and execution elements for all contractual, US and international quality obligations.
  • Lead and support implementation or processes to ensure quality control for all projects.
  • Assure released products and services reliably meet all requirements (quality and regulatory).
  • Provide oversight for product / process qualifications, including review and approval of quality documents, plans and procedures.
  • Work seamlessly with operations, engineering, business teams, support functions, and partners to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent WFSC in internal, customer and regulatory audits / visits.
  • Help develop and drive the culture of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement with strong Nuclear Safety Culture throughout the organization.
  • Ensure ongoing evolution of training, self-assessments, surveillance and observation programs to maximize workforce capability and development.
  • Implement Statistical Process Controls, Quality at the Source and Mistake Proofing methods as needed to prevent quality problems.
  • Support monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide status report and recommended actions.
  • Promote a working environment that encourages employee involvement to achieve excellence in compliance, product quality and efficient operations. Promote team morale, diversity, involvement/ownership, and skills development.
  • Champion positive employee relations. Foster employee engagement and ensure that business goals are effectively communicated to employees. Support talent development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college and minimum 2 years of professional commercial nuclear experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing, operations, or nuclear services role
  • OR High School Diploma with minimum 5 years of professional commercial nuclear experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing, operations, or nuclear services role
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial nuclear industry or military experience with at least one of the following: Quality Control or Quality Assurance position for commercial nuclear industry, OR Experience working with a certified nuclear quality management system
  • Minimum 1 year experience supervising/directing personnel

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must maintain after hours cell phone availability
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to Wilmington, NC (relocation assistance provided)
  • Up to 10% domestic travel to supplier and customer sites

Desired Characteristics

  • Domain expertise with quality system requirements in the nuclear industry (10CFR50, Appendix B and 10CFR Part 21; ASME NQA-1; and ISO-9001)
  • Demonstrated performance in Corrective Action Programs; including analysis, identification, and resolution of quality and safety issues.
  • Demonstrated performance in driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to perform data and statistical analysis.
  • Manufacturing quality, production and/or engineering experience with strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience interacting with leadership and customer organizations.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and effectively interact with all levels of management to resolve issues that cross organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence stakeholders and build trust with managers, team members, and customers.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification. Practical experience with identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes based on Lean.
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and manufacturing/inventory control applications.

The base pay range for this position is $93,000 to $110,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Friday November 1st.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
