The Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Welding, is responsible for GE Hitachi Nuclear services component operations (SCO) manufacturing processes The Lead Manufacturing Welding Engineer - responsible for GE Hitachi Nuclear services component operations (SCO) manufacturing processes training and support operations, located at the GE Hitachi Nuclear HQ in Wilmington, NC. This role will review, design, generate, update, improve, and monitor manufacturing equipment, devices, systems, and processes. Additionally, this position will provide assistance to the other manufacturing areas on site with their weld processes, issues, improvements, etc.

- Embrace GE Hitachi Nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security, and quality.
- Develop team members knowledge base of metal working processes, tools, hardfacing, fixtures, and operations for stainless steel fabrications. This includes manual tig welding and automated laser welding, polishing, manual repair and rework.
- Serve as project leader on welding capital projects.
- Support other manufacturing areas on site for welding related matters.
- Maintain and modernize manufacturing techniques and process monitoring to predict and prevent process upsets and downtime and minimize scrap/waste generation.
- Specify proper equipment or welding centers for acquisition, installation and start up of new or additional component work.
- Technical leader for first piece qualifications and serial production to meet customer commitments.
- Develop programs and welding solutions.
- Develop and support nitride, heat treat and clean room processes for annealing and conditioning metal fabricated assemblies.
- Technical writing of work instructions and standard work for team members in production.
- Work cross-functionally with design and quality engineering to negotiate efficient dimensioning, inspection processes.
- Maintain, review, update, and create area manufacturing documents for operation and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and quality regulations and metrics through use of compliance calendars, databases, and tracking systems.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to facilitate design and implementation of continuous improvement of processes with the team.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college and a minimum of 5 years professional experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing, maintenance role, or industry or military experience with engineering welding processes and controls
- OR Technical Associates Degree from an accredited university or college and a minimum of 7 years professional experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing, maintenance role, or industry or military experience with engineering welding processes and controls
- OR High School diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years professional industrial or military experience in welding, metallurgy or chemical processing role
Eligibility Requirements:
- The location for this role is onsite in Wilmington, NC.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)
- Manufacturing engineering experience with product development for machining, metallurgy and heat treating processes
- Stainless steel processing experience
- Welding experience - TIG & Laser
- Experience with equipment installation and troubleshooting, including management of capital and expense projects.
- Manufacturing planning development, including technical methods instructions development
- Experience identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to efficiently monitor for process health
- Practical experience with lean manufacturing principles and tools, identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes.
- Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification.
- Quality processes experience - GD&T, 6 Sigma, CMM, Qualification achievement.
- Understanding of quality measurement metrology and product design engineering.
- CNC programing, CADCAM, "Inventor", or Solidworks modeling experience
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to independently manage competing priorities and effectively interact with all levels of management to resolve issues that cross organizational boundaries
- Proven ability to persevere and deliver on commitments
